Mayor Pfiester called for consideration of and action on receipt of a status report <br />regarding the impact of winter ice storms on City services. <br />City Manager Malone reported that everyone is aware that citizens in the City -_ <br />of Paris were hit hard by the winter ice storm on December 25, 2000. City <br />Manager Malone said the city has made preparations in advance for the crews <br />of the Street and Traffic Divisions to be mobilized in response to icing <br />conditions, although we did not expect the type of icing conditions that we <br />received. He said shortly after 4:00 P. M. city crews were responding under the <br />direction of John Brunson, Sanitation Supervisor. City Manager Malone said <br />they worked in shifts throughout the night sanding streets, clearing street right - <br />of -ways, and attending to the traffic signals. The City Manager said the power <br />also went off throughout the city and to the raw water pumps at Pat Mayse <br />Reservoir at 4:36 P. M. and the power at the lake was not restored until 1:40 P. <br />M. on December 27'. City Manager Malone said due to the icing, power went <br />off in many areas of the city including most of the city buildings. The Police <br />Department and radio communication center for the Police, Fire and EMS was <br />powered by the Department's emergency diesel generator, which had enough <br />fuel on hand for 72 hours of continuous operation. He said the radio tower is <br />provided by Airwaves Communications, which is powered by an on site <br />generator that was utilized, and the fuel supply for that generator is over 300 <br />
