<br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL
<br />JANUARY 10, 2000
<br />The City Council of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas, met in regular session, Monday,
<br />January 10, 2000, at 6:00 P. M., City Council Chambers, City Hall, Paris, Texas.
<br />Mayor Charles H. Neeley called the meeting to order with the following Council
<br />Members present: John F. Bell, Richard Manning, Mary Ann Fisher, Michael J.
<br />Pfiester, Kevin Gray, and Gene McWaters, Jr. Also present were City Manager
<br />Michael E. Malone, City Attorney Larry W. Schenk, and City Clerk Mattie
<br />Cunningham.
<br />Invocation was given by Terry Townsend, Director of Parks and Recreation for the
<br />City of Paris.
<br />Mayor Neeley called for approval of minutes from previous meetings. A motion was
<br />made by Councilman Manning, seconded by Mayor Pro Tem Fisher, to approve the
<br />minutes as presented. The motion carried 7 ayes, 0 nays.
<br />City Manager Malone announced that the City Council has been furnished the
<br />minutes of the Paris Public Library Advisory Board, Main Street Advisory Board,
<br />and the Paris Economic Development Corporation, with no action being required.
<br />Mr. Gary Vest, Director of Economic Development/Chamber of Commerce C.E.O.,
<br />came forward presenting the Annual Report for the Paris Economic Development
<br />Corporation. Mr. Vest presented the City Council with an annual summary of
<br />activity for the Paris Economic Development Corporation with advertising
<br />responses of 102 for the year which was down from what they normally have, but
<br />if the City Council will remember there were so many commitments with projects _
<br />going on that they did no advertising during the year. Three new advertisements
<br />have been created, one by David Chapman, Turner International Piping Systems,
<br />one by Lowell Trotter, FP &L Lamar Power Partners, and one by Bill Carver, with
<br />Paris Packaging.
<br />Mr. Vest said during 1999, they had 9 prospects visit the City of Paris. Mr. Vest
<br />advised that major projects they did this last year were the extension of Park Street
<br />in N. W. Industrial Park; Lamar Grant to Mark Cunningham; Lansing Grain,
<br />transloading facility; Kimberly - Clark, Enterprise Project for distribution center
<br />expansion; Earth Grain, 35,000 square feet expansion, 40 new jobs, received Smart
<br />Jobs Grant; Ground Breaking Ceremony for FP &L Lamar Power Partners May 18;
<br />incentive payment made to Panda, Turner International Piping Systems, Enterprise
<br />Project, April; and the incentive payment made to TIPS.
<br />Mr. Vest said there were several Trade Shows and Conferences that they attended
<br />during the year. The Eurotex Trade Show in Dallas, Supply Chain Expo in Baltimore,
<br />Export Conference, and several others during 1999.
