`7.5 '7 <br />Berry Dunn, 3015 Briarwood, appeared before the City Council, stating that he <br />s: shared some of the same objections as Mr. Starnes in that he lives on the back side <br />of this property, and it will affect him more than others. His concern is the effect <br />this will have on his children's safety, and at this time, he does not have any <br />concerns about crimes in this area. Mr. Dunn stated that he did not receive <br />notification of the proposed zoning change. Mr. Dunn pointed out that three houses <br />on the back side of Briarwood were not notified, and the only way he knew about <br />this meeting is a neighbor came by and told him about the proposed zoning change. <br />Mr. Chadwick advised the City Council that Jeff Starnes, Greg Cunningham and <br />himself were not notified of the zoning change. <br />Earl Smith, City Engineer, came forward informing the City Council that the city is <br />required by law to notify people within 200 feet of the property, being rezoned. Mr. <br />Smith said that this information was acquired from the Lamar County Appraisal <br />District and that is all the City is required to do. <br />Cathy Coker, 935 Fairway, was present opposing the development for commercial <br />property that close to her home. Ms. Coker said that she agrees with Mr. Starnes <br />regarding the zoning of this property as planned development instead of <br />commercial zoning. <br />George McLaughlin appeared before the City Council and said there is one question <br />that should be addressed before a decision is made, and that is what type <br />businesses are they planning to be located in the shopping center. <br />Mr. Steenson advised that the type of businesses that they are targeting for this <br />area are typical type tenants that go in towns of this size. <br />Cleveland Thomas, 3065 Briarwood, appeared before the City Council stating that <br />the changes this company wants to make will make a drastic change in the <br />neighborhood, and he would like for it to stay the way it is. <br />Steve Glover, 930 Bunker, appeared before the Council stating that his concern is <br />the possibility of opening 31st Street N. E. Mr. Glover said he did believe that <br />planned development zoning would be a better choice for this proposed zoning <br />change and asked the City Council to strongly consider that. <br />Curtis Hoogen, 920 Bunker Street, came forward voicing his opposition to the <br />development at this time. Mr. Hoogen pointed out other location around the loop <br />that the development could be located without building near a residential area. Mr. <br />Hoogen encouraged the Council to vote "No" to this rezoning. <br />
