of their strongest allies in Economic Development, they plan on working with <br />the World Economic Development Line, and they have entered into a <br />partnership with them to do trade shows. <br />Mr. Vest advised the Council they are currently doing a labor survey, and they <br />hired a company out of Irving, and will start surveying people in our community <br />later this week, and in conjunction with that, they are also conducting a wage <br />and benefit survey of local industries, and those forms went out last week. This <br />will help in marketing our community and know what is prevailing benefit <br />practices are along with what the prevailing wages are in our area. <br />Other things that happened in the area, they had a warehouse location from the <br />Exide Corporation, they opened up a warehouse operation in Paris and <br />employed about twenty people. They presented their Annual Industrial <br />Appreciu ;.ion Award to Kimberly Clark for their expansion over the last three <br />years. They had a planning retreat to develop their program of work for the <br />PEDC for the first time that they had actually done this since the beginning of <br />the PEDC. Greyhound Bus service has been restored to Paris, and they <br />completed their first quarterly report in the American Chamber of Commerce <br />Research Association survey which is a cost of living survey, and that goes out <br />and you can compare cities all over the United States as to what the cost of <br />living is. Mr. Vest said there were current expansions underway. Kimberly <br />Clark is in the process of expanding their production line, and Flex -o -lite has <br />major expansion going on at their plant. Also We Pack has a major expansion <br />on the drawing board, and Contractors Supply which was located out in the rural <br />part of North Lamar County have relocated in the City. <br />Roy Sparks, District Manager for Texas Utilities Electric Company, appeared <br />before the Council giving them handouts. Mr. Sparks told the Council that this <br />is a good settlement, it is fair to the customers and shareholders, lowers the <br />customers cost provides regulatory certainly for two years, caps TU Electric <br />earnings at a reasonable level, and allows them to began mitigating potential <br />stranded cost as they move to a more competitive industry.
