633 <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />January 13, 1997 <br />The City Council of the City of Paris met in regular session, Monday, <br />January 13, 1997, 6:00 P. M., City Council Chambers, City Hall, Paris, <br />Texas. Mayor Eric S. Clifford called the meeting to order with the <br />followinq Councilmembers present: Charles Fulbright Alan Boyd, <br />Richard Hunt, Charlie Neeley, Millie McDonald, and Thetis L. Elder. <br />City Manager, Michael E. Malone, City Attorney, T. K. Haynes, and City <br />Clerk, Mattie Cunningham were also present. <br />Invocation was given by W. E. Anderson, Director of Finance for the <br />City of Paris. <br />Mayor Clifford asked if there were any corrections to the minutes of <br />previous meetings, there being none, the minutes were approved as <br />presented. <br />City Manager Malone announced that the next item on the agenda was <br />receipt of reports from Committees, Boards, and Commissions. <br />City Manager Malone advised the Council that the Noise Committee did <br />meet with Mr. and Mrs. Jim Booth, by invited representation of the <br />Chamber of Commerce, and discussion was had about the noise situation <br />in the vicinity of the Williamsburg Shopping Center and the City <br />Attorney was requested to correspond with the owner which was <br />accomplished by a letter furnished in the packet. <br />The Annexation Committee did meet on Monday, January 13, 1997, with no <br />report being given. <br />The minutes of the Paris Public Library Advisory Board and the Paris <br />Economic Development Corporation were presented with no action being <br />required. <br />Mr. Gary Vest, Director of Economic Development /Chamber of Commerce <br />C.E.O., came forward presenting the Annual Report for 1996. Mr. Vest <br />said he was going to combine the quarterly report and the annual report <br />for the PEDC. Mr. Vest told the Council that this quarter they had <br />received 95 responses to their advertisement programs. Over the past <br />year they received 139 for the first quarter, 120 for the second <br />quarter, 100 for the third, then 95 for this quarter, so there was <br />quite a bit of interest generated from the ad campaign, and they <br />continue to run those. Mr. Vest distributed the new brochure for the <br />Paris Economic Development Corporation which is part of the program <br />they use in response to the direct mail. During this quarter they had <br />one prospect that produces roll paper for business machines, a prospect <br />from Texas Department of Commerce and TU. There is one local company <br />that they have been dealing with on a possible expansion, also a <br />prospect visit in December that was a referral from TU Electric. The <br />third quarter they had nine prospects, in the second quarter they had <br />six, and the first quarter they had three. Mr. Vest said they had <br />visits from four different prospects that when they got through the <br />first and second stage they came and looked at our community to <br />
