Two trade shows were <br />attended - The International Food Technology Trade Show in New Orleans <br />in cooperation with the Texas Department of Agricultural and Lone Star <br />Gas Company, and the International Food Processors in San Francisco in <br />October in conjunction with TU Electric and Lone Star Gas. Mr. Vest <br />said there was a trade show coming up in Chicago for International <br />Plastic, and they were doing it with TU Electric. Mr. Vest pointed out <br />some of the projects that was accomplished -in 1996 through PEDC were <br />securing a 16 acre tract on the N. W. Loop, building the Bitco Building <br />on the N. W. Loop, entered into negotiations with Campbell Soup to try <br />to keep the Paris Plant open, and part of that process involved tapping <br />in to a state program called the Skill Development Fund which is a. <br />training program that is handled by the Texas Workforce Commission. <br />Funds were received in the amount of $640,000.00 which flows directly <br />to Paris Jr. College to be used for training at the Campbell Plant. <br />They began participation in the third quarter in the ACCRA Survey which <br />is the American Chamber of Commerce Researcher's Association Cost of <br />Living Survey, but they have yet to be in one of the reports, but <br />should be in the first report coming out this year. We have active <br />participation in the Texas Economic Development Council, the American <br />Economic Council, and the Northeast Texas Economic Development <br />Roundtable. <br />City Manager Malone advised that the Traffic Commission's minutes have <br />been furnished with a recommendation for authorizing preparation of an <br />ordinance revising Section 31 -65(b) of the Traffic Control Map <br />providing for a No Parking Zone on College Street, on the North side of <br />the street, beginning at the West curbline of 24th Street S. E., West <br />approximately two hundred (200) feet to the East boundary line of <br />parkway. <br />A motion was made by Councilwoman Elder, seconded by Councilman <br />McDonald authorizing preparation of an ordinance revising Section <br />31 -65(b) of the Traffic Control Map providing for a No Parking Zone on <br />College Street, on the North side of the street, beginning at the West <br />curbline of 24th Street S. E., West approximately two hundred (200) <br />feet to the East boundary line of parkway. The motion carried 5 ayes, <br />0 nays. <br />Mr. Steve Ekstrom, Area Engineer for the Texas Department of <br />Transportation was present presenting the Mayor with a refund check in <br />the amount of $18,646.77 on the 24th Street Reconstruction. <br />ORDINANCE NO. 97 -001 <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ZONING ORDINANCE No. 1710 OF THE CITY OF PARIS, <br />PARIS, TEXAS, AND CHANGING THE BOUNDARIES ESTABLISHED BY THE ZONING MAP <br />OF SAID CITY; ESTABLISHING A GENERAL RETAIL DISTRICT (GR) ON LOT 2, <br />BLOCK 9, OF THE COLONIAL ADDITION, PROVIDING FOR THREE PARKING SPACES <br />AS SHOWN ON THE APPROVED PARKING PLAN, ON PROPERTY BELONGING TO MINNIE <br />NELSON, SO AS TO INCLUDE THEREIN TERRITORY FORMERLY DESIGNATED AS A ONE <br />FAMILY DWELLING DISTRICT NO. 2 (SF -2); DESIGNATING THE BOUNDARIES OF <br />THE GENERAL RETAIL DISTRICT (GR) SO ESTABLISHED; PROVIDING FOR A <br />PENALTY NOT TO EXCEED $2,000.00; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF <br />
