760 <br />Within the multi jurisdictional environment, the CAD system supports joint dispatching of units <br />from police, fire and emergency medical agencies to a call for service. These are handled within <br />the CAD system through a linkage to the event number. Detailed follow -up reports can be <br />entered by each agency individually, but these reports remain linked by the event number. <br />Multiple units from any agency may be assigned by the dispatcher to a call for service. There <br />are no limitations on the number of units which may be assigned to a given call. <br />The multi jurisdictional aspect of the software is further enhanced through the recommendation <br />of mutual aid when it is required. This' feature also interacts with the Records Management <br />Systems to assist in the control of follow -up reporting, UCR statistics, and NFIRS reporting <br />requirements. <br />Workstation Configuration - While the call taker workstation uses only one monitor /PC which <br />may be either color or monochrome, the recommended configuration of the dispatcher's console <br />includes two color monitor /PCs. One display monitor configuration may also be used if desired. <br />The primary screen is divided into three windows and displays simultaneously, data regarding <br />(1) the call being worked, (2) the list of available units, and (3) the list of calls waiting for <br />dispatch. This organizes the information for the dispatcher and prevents having to search through <br />several screens of data to access needed information. This windowing technology: <br />• Increases Efficiency <br />• Speeds Up Dispatching <br />• Organizes Information Better <br />• Keeps Screens Fresh <br />The primary screen is designed to allow the dispatcher to dispatch all types of calls, whether <br />police, fire or emergency medical, from the same screen. The cursor is placed in the appropriate <br />field depending upon the type of call indicated. Thus, the dispatcher must only become familiar <br />with one screen which facilitates the operational process and training. It also gives greater <br />flexibility in dispatch centers with multiple dispatchers. <br />Additionally, the system is designed so that all other data accessed by the system may be <br />displayed without changing the primary screen display. <br />The secondary monitor normally displays the status of units committed to activities. When <br />requested by the dispatcher, other information is also displayed on this screen. This information <br />includes: <br />• History of events at a location <br />• Premises information <br />• Hazardous material <br />• Response hazards <br />• Special instructions <br />• Help information for new operators <br />• Street closures <br />• Telephone contracts <br />8 <br />
