MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />January 8, 1996 <br />The City Council of the City of Paris met in regular session, Monday, <br />January 8, 1996, 6:00 P. M., City Council Chambers, City Hall, Paris, <br />Texas. Mayor Eric S. Clifford called the meeting to order with the <br />following Councilmembers present: Charles Fulbright, Alan R. Boyd, <br />Richard Hunt, Charles H. Neeley, and John Bell. Also present was City <br />Manager, Michael E. Malone, City Attorney, T. K. Haynes, and City <br />Clerk, Mattie Cunningham. <br />Invocation was given by Police Chief, Karl Louis. <br />Mayor Clifford announced that if there was anyone in the audience who <br />has business to bring before the Council and is not listed on the <br />agenda, to please let it be known in order for the information to be <br />made available in compliance with the Open Meeting Law. <br />Mayor Clifford asked if there were any corrections to the minutes of <br />previous meeting, there being none, the minutes were approved as <br />presented. <br />Mayor Clifford informed the Council that he has a petition concerning <br />renaming a Cul -de -sac "Margaret Place" which has been signed by all the <br />property owners wanting the name of Margaret Street to be changed to <br />Margaret Place. Mayor Clifford explained they were having problems <br />with people thinking there is a through street, and it is not. Mayor <br />Clifford referred this matter to the Planning and Zoning Commission for <br />their study and recommendation, and gave the petition to the City Clerk <br />for filing. <br />City Manager Malone announced that the next item on the agenda was <br />receipt of reports from committees, boards, and commissions, and the <br />minutes from the Paris Library Advisory Board, and Paris Lamar County <br />Board of Health had been furnished with no action being required. <br />Gary Vest, Director of Economic Development /Chamber of Commerce, CEO, <br />came forward giving the Paris Economic Development Corporation Annual <br />Report. Mr. Vest presented the Council with the new community profile <br />that they are using for a lot of the inquiries and marketing efforts <br />for the City of Paris. Mr. Vest said in Economic Development promoting <br />and marketing is the name of the game, and the hats that the Councils <br />has in front of them is some they have been using with some of the <br />local industry on retention expansion program along with visiting <br />industry. Mr. Vest said since the last time he had met with the <br />Council in October they had received 82 inquiries to their advertising <br />which is up real good, and presented some of the materials that they <br />have been using telling the Council that these are the advertisement <br />that has generated the responses they have had. The BITCO Project they <br />have been working on is under construction, that site has been acquired <br />by the Paris Economic Development Corporation from the Industrial <br />Corporation, and construction has started. Mr. Vest.said they have had <br />one industry visit that being Babcock and Wilcock. Also they did their <br />annual appreciation award at the annual Chamber of Commerce Banquet, <br />
