Mayor Fisher Commission for April 4, 1994, referred the petitions to the their study and recommendations and before the City ` :•i►nci 1 April 7, Planning and Zoning at their meeting on 1994. Mayor Fisher announced that the Council would go back to Item No. 18B, Personal Appearances - Ms. Vicki Horne, 215 33rd S. E., regarding smoking in public places. Ms. Vicki Horne, 215 S. E. 33rd, came forward asking the Council to wake up and realize what they as City Councilmembers have been doing. Ms. Horne became upset, and could not continue. City Manager Malone read Ms. Horne's statement as follows: "As you know, I am very much against smoking. Why? because I care about life. Not just mine, but the life of others as well. It has been proven smoking is very hazardous to the lives of all .human beings - the smokers, as well as, the non - smokers. It increases health problems for many, and can cause health problems for all. How do I know? Experience, there are many today suffering in various ways because of tobacco smoke. Not just physically, but mentally, and emotionally as well. Their families suffer with them. I can not go out for enjoyment without fear, restaurants, volunteer work, stores of any .kind, skate land, grocery stores, bowling alley, ball games, office buildings, library, schools. Is it right? Why are you on the City Council? Ego, money, power, if you care show it! Enforce it! ".. Mayor Fisher advised the Council that he had spoken with Ms. Horne about smoking in public places, and at that time I told Ms. Horne that we had asked the Chamber of Commerce to pose this same question to business establishment in Paris, and to get back with us.
