Mayor Fisher declared the public hearing open to consider the petition
of Beverly McKee for a change in zoning from a One Family Dwelling
District No. 2 (SF -2) to a Commercial District (C) on Lot 1, Block 10,
Town North Estates located on the northwest corner of Collegiate Drive
and Kessler Drive.
Mayor Fisher called for proponents to appear, and Beverly McKee, 88
Turtle Creek, appeared in behalf of her petition, stating they owned
the block, and the requested rezoning area is the only part of the
block that is not zoned commercial. Mrs. McKee said she did not feel
that at beauty shop, or an account office is going to effect the
neighborhood, and further stated that her mother lives directly across
the street for this property, with McKee's located on the corner. Mrs.
McKee stated she felt this would not devalue the property in the area.
Mrs. McKee told the Council that at this time she was thinking about
putting a gym on the property along with a batting cage, no intended
use at this time.
Mayor Fisher called for opponents to appear, and Mike Hutching, and
Richard Manning appeared in opposition to the zoning change.
No one else appeared, and the public hearing was declared closed.
A motion was made by Councilman Bell, seconded by Councilman Brown to
deny the zoning change. The motion carried 5 ayes, 0 nays.
Mayor Fisher declared the public hearing open to consider the
abandonment and closing of a portion of E. Center Street from the north
boundary line of Loop 286 N. E., north and east of it's intersection
with the proposed extension of 31st N. E.
No one appeared, and Mayor Fisher declared the public hearing closed.
City Attorney Haynes reported that attorneys representing people
involved in this matter, being Mr. Rueben Burnett and Oak Creek
Properties, are negotiating and attempting to come up with something
that will satisfy all parties. Mr. Haynes told the Council that it was
request that this matter be tabled to give them an opportunity to work
out a solution.
