RESOLUTION 89 -015- WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris, in keeping with its philosophy of serving all of the citizens of Paris; and, WHEREAS, parks of the City of Paris have heretofore been named after the donor; however, since Johnson Park was named after the street it fronted on there is no impediment to the renaming of the park after a prominent national figure; and, WHEREAS, Martin Luther King, Jr. is recognized as a prominent national figure, and it is therefore fitting and proper to rename Johnson Park, located on Johnson Street between 12th Street N.E. and 15th Street N.E., as Martin Luther King, Jr. Park; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, that Johnson Park, located on Johnson Street between 12th Street N.E. and 15th Street N.E., be renamed Martini Luther King, Jr. Park. Y ynes, City ttorney Resolution No. 89 -016 authorizing and directing the Director of Finance, W. E. Anderson to cause to be drawn a City of Paris check in the amount of $1,100.00 payable to the State Department of Highways and Public Transportation and delivered to Mr. Bobby L. Myers, P. E., District Engineer, State Department of Highways and Public Transportation, P.O. Box 250, Paris, Texas, 75461 along with three copies of said agreement executed by the City of Paris for additional right -of -way acquisition on Loop Highway 286 S. W., Southwest of Paris at the Missouri Pacific Railroad Overpass was presented. A motion was made by Councilman Booth, seconded by Councilman Fendley for approval of the Resolution. The motion carried 7 ayes, 0 nays.
