MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />May 2, 1985 <br />i <br />The City Council of the City of Paris met in special session, Thursday, May 2, 1985, <br />5:15 P. M. Mayor Pro Tem Fisher called the meeting to order with the following — <br />Councilmen present: Donald G. Wilson, Mike Folmar, Billy J. Burnett, and W. C. <br />Francis. Also present were City Manager David H. Doty, City Attorney, T. K. Haynes, <br />and Asst City Clerk, Mattie Cunningham. <br />City Manager Doty presented a memo to the Council from Dick Boots concerning <br />telephones. City Manager Doty advised the Council that the first priority established <br />was dependable service, and that the City did not want to create our own maintenance <br />staff as other companies had. City Manager Doty advised the Council that the City <br />Staff had selected two which were AT &T and Southwestern Bell . <br />Dick Boots, Director of Parks and Recreation appeared before the Council and discussed <br />the telephone system with the -Council. After discussion, the Council instructed <br />the staff to move forward with a lease purchase agreement with Southwestern Bell <br />Telephone Company. <br />Councilman Williams entered the Council chambers and assumed his seat at the <br />Council table. <br />Mayor Pro Tem Fisher called for the tabulations of bids for painting work at the <br />City Hall Annex Building, and the following bids were presented: <br />Tommy Simmons Paint <br />Alternate <br />Quality Painting Company <br />Alternate <br />$8,804.00 <br />$9,004.00 <br />$14,705.00 <br />$15,603.00 <br />Councilman Wilson moved that bids received at a public bid opening on April 30, 1985 <br />for painting the City Hall Annex Building be spread on the record and that in <br />as much as Tommy Simmons Paint submitted the lowest and best bid that a contract <br />be awarded to Tommy Simmons Paint for such items meeting City's specifications in <br />an amount not to exceed $9,004.00. The motion was seconded by Councilman Folmar. <br />The motion carried 6 ayes, 0 nays. <br />Mayor Pro Tem Fisher called for the tabulations of bids for Tile work on the City <br />Hall Annex Building, and the following bids were presented: <br />James Duke Tile <br />$3,975.00 <br />A motion was made by Councilman Wilson to reject the bid of James Duke Tile <br />Company as the City had accepted the bid of Tommy Simmons Paint Company for <br />painting the bathrooms instead of using tile. The motion was seconded by <br />Councilman Folmar and carried 6 ayes, 0 nays. <br />Mayor Pro Tem Fisher called for the tabulations of bids for floor covering for the <br />City Hall Annex Building, and the following bids were presented: <br />Taylor Discount Carpets <br />Smith Carpets <br />Highland Wholesale Bldg.
