789 A motion was made by Councilman Fisher, seconded by Councilman Burnett for approval of the bid of the Lowry Chevrolet Company for a truck and chassis for the Street Department in the amount of $10,698.00. The motion carried 6 ayes, 0 nays. A motion was made by Councilman Burnett, seconded by Councilman Farris to award the bid to the Hi -Way Machinery Company for an asphalt Distributor for the Street Department in the amount of $17,368.00. The motion carried 6 ayes, 0 nays. City Manager Sokoll recommended that the bids be rejected for the Asphalt Heater andStorage Tank. After discussion, a motion was made by Councilman Fisher, seconded by Councilman Kyle to reject all bids for the Asphalt Heater and Storage Tank. The motion carried 6 ayes, 0 nays. Mayor Malone advised the Council that a request for removal of stop signs at 19th N. E. and Cherry, and 19th N. E. and Booth had been tabled at a previous meeting and that the chair would accept a motion to remove from the table for discussion. A motion was made by Councilman Fisher, seconded by Councilman Burnett to take from the table the item concerning the removal of the stop signs. The motion carried 6 ayes, 0 nays. Asst. Police Chief Barnett presented a traffic count report on the two stop signs. After discussion, a motion was made by Councilman Farris, seconded by Councilman Burnett to deny the request to remove the stop signs. The motion carried 6 ayes, 0 nays. City Manager Sokoll presented a petition from property owners on 41st Street S. W. between Bonham Street and Old Bonham Road as follows: "TO THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS: We, the undersigned property owners, do hereby petition the City of Paris to pave and curb and gutter 41st Street S. W. from Bonham Street (U.S. Hwy No 82) to Old Bonham Raod, under the City policy of costs of curb and gutter and one - third of the paving costs being assessed to the property owners on a front foot basis:" The petition was signed by 21 property owners and residents on 41st S. W. City Manager Sokoll presented an engineers estimate for the curb, gutter and paving in the amount of $589,160.00. Councilman Walter Williams entered the Council chambers and assumed his seat at the Council table. Mr. T. S. Smith, 1015 41st S. W., appeared before the Council questioning the need for a 39 foot street and expressed his opposition to the paving although his name appeared on the petition. Mr. Alford Hess appeared before the Council speaking in favor of the paving project. Mayor Malone stated that the Council would continue its review of the request and that the project would possibly have to appear on a future bond issue. Mayor Malone advised the Council of the request of the Paris Tree Preservation Committee to revise the makeup of the committee to include two citizens -at- large, and one Councilman. Resolution No. 2015 amending the makeup of the Tree Preservation Committee was presented. A motion was made by Councilman Williams, seconded by Council- man Fisher for adoption of the Resolution.
