789 <br />A motion was made by Councilman Fisher, seconded by Councilman Burnett for <br />approval of the bid of the Lowry Chevrolet Company for a truck and chassis <br />for the Street Department in the amount of $10,698.00. The motion carried <br />6 ayes, 0 nays. <br />A motion was made by Councilman Burnett, seconded by Councilman Farris to <br />award the bid to the Hi -Way Machinery Company for an asphalt Distributor <br />for the Street Department in the amount of $17,368.00. The motion carried <br />6 ayes, 0 nays. <br />City Manager Sokoll recommended that the bids be rejected for the Asphalt Heater <br />andStorage Tank. After discussion, a motion was made by Councilman Fisher, <br />seconded by Councilman Kyle to reject all bids for the Asphalt Heater and <br />Storage Tank. The motion carried 6 ayes, 0 nays. <br />Mayor Malone advised the Council that a request for removal of stop signs at <br />19th N. E. and Cherry, and 19th N. E. and Booth had been tabled at a previous <br />meeting and that the chair would accept a motion to remove from the table for <br />discussion. A motion was made by Councilman Fisher, seconded by Councilman <br />Burnett to take from the table the item concerning the removal of the stop <br />signs. The motion carried 6 ayes, 0 nays. <br />Asst. Police Chief Barnett presented a traffic count report on the two stop <br />signs. After discussion, a motion was made by Councilman Farris, seconded <br />by Councilman Burnett to deny the request to remove the stop signs. The <br />motion carried 6 ayes, 0 nays. <br />City Manager Sokoll presented a petition from property owners on 41st Street <br />S. W. between Bonham Street and Old Bonham Road as follows: <br />"TO THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS: <br />We, the undersigned property owners, do hereby petition the City of Paris to <br />pave and curb and gutter 41st Street S. W. from Bonham Street (U.S. Hwy No 82) <br />to Old Bonham Raod, under the City policy of costs of curb and gutter and one - <br />third of the paving costs being assessed to the property owners on a front foot <br />basis:" <br />The petition was signed by 21 property owners and residents on 41st S. W. <br />City Manager Sokoll presented an engineers estimate for the curb, gutter and <br />paving in the amount of $589,160.00. <br />Councilman Walter Williams entered the Council chambers and assumed his seat <br />at the Council table. <br />Mr. T. S. Smith, 1015 41st S. W., appeared before the Council questioning the <br />need for a 39 foot street and expressed his opposition to the paving although <br />his name appeared on the petition. <br />Mr. Alford Hess appeared before the Council speaking in favor of the paving <br />project. <br />Mayor Malone stated that the Council would continue its review of the request <br />and that the project would possibly have to appear on a future bond issue. <br />Mayor Malone advised the Council of the request of the Paris Tree Preservation <br />Committee to revise the makeup of the committee to include two citizens -at- <br />large, and one Councilman. <br />Resolution No. 2015 amending the makeup of the Tree Preservation Committee <br />was presented. A motion was made by Councilman Williams, seconded by Council- <br />man Fisher for adoption of the Resolution. The motion carried 7 ayes, 0 nays. <br />
