City Manager Sokoll stated that the Airport Advisory Board has
recommended that the City make application for a grant to construct a_ firehouse at
Cox Field. He stated that no money amount has been determined but that FAA would
participate in such a project.
Following discussion a motion was made by Councilman Farris, seconded by Councilman
Philley to authorize the City Manager to submit a grant application for the fire
house. ,Motion carried 7 ayes, 0 nays.
City Manager Sokoll stated that the Airport Board had recommended that twelve to
eighteen T- hangars, patio type, be constructed and that the Council authorize the
advertising for bids for the project. Rick Rex, Chairman of the Airport Advisory
Board, appeared and stated that a number of airplanes were without hangar space
at the airport and there was a large demand for hangar space. He went on to say
that $85,000 had been budgeted for the project and requested the Council to proceed
by authorization of bids.
Following discussion Councilman Farris made a motion to authorize receiving of bids
for the.-project. Councilman Wunsch seconded the motion which carried unanimously.
City Manager Sokoll gave a.report on the request from Jimmy Wrenn to lease the
large hangar upon completion of the new patio type t- hangars. Mr. Sokoll went on
to say that if the large hangar is leased to Mr. Wrenn, other facilities for the
lounge, operations center and restrooms, presently in the hangar would have to be
provided. Rick Rex spoke again saying that the Airport needs a mechanic's service
such as planned by Mr. Wrenn and that no such service is now available at Cox Field.
No action was taken by the Council on this matter but the.general consensus was
that there would be no abjection to such a lease if hangar space and facilities for
the lounge, operations center and restrooms can be arranged.
Resolution No. 1879 appointing James Mosley to the Airport Advisory Board to fill
the unexpired term of Bruce Carr was presented. A motion was made by Councilman
Burnett, seconded by Councilman Williams for approval of the resolution. Motion
carried 7 ayes, 0 nays.
