City Attorney.Haynes briefed the Council on the.:request;_;of Lomo.Alto Corp. to sublease <br />the Cox Field Airport property to Bud Nowell.an`d, "recommended that Lhe Council approve <br />the sublease. Motion was made by Councilman Wunsch, seconded by Councilman Farris <br />to approve the sublease. .:Motion carried 7 ayes, 0 nays. <br />Mayor Malone stated that the Council would now hear a engineerinq report on short <br />range capital improvements for the City water system and a'report on water treatment <br />plant flooding two weeks ago. <br />City Manager Sokoll introduced Mr. Car Shimek, who presented the report and his <br />recommendation that an additional pump be installed at the water treatment plant to <br />increase the pumping capacity into the system by approximately.2 to 3 million <br />gallons per day. He said that it would be desirable to install an additional pump <br />to be used as a back -up. <br />Mr. Shimek reviewed a written report he had submitted to the City concerning the <br />flooding that had occurred in the water treatment plant a few weeks back. He sited <br />three possibilities that could have occurred to cause the flooding. <br />After receiving Mr. Shimek's recommendations and following discussion by the Council, <br />Councilman Farris made a motion to authorize specifications and advertising forbids <br />on pumps, motors, switching gear and valves with alternate bids for one or two b' <br />pumps so that we can look at the cost effectiveness of ordering two and that engineer- <br />ing and plans be authorized for the installation of the pumps and that engineering <br />and preliminary plans for the design of the recommended clearwell_.also be authorized. <br />Councilman Fisher seconded the motion which carried 7 ayes, 0 nays. <br />City Manager Sokoll submitted a report concerning the demolition of old abandoned <br />water treatment plant facilities and requested the Council's authorization to <br />advertise for bids to demolish them. <br />Councilman Williams made a motion to authorize the receiving of bids for demolition <br />of the surplus structures. Councilman Fisher seconded the motion which carried <br />7 ayes, 0 nays. <br />Mayor Malone announced the next item was to consider authorizing bids for mainten- <br />ance contract for water system controls. <br />Mr. David White a representative of the Honeywell Corp. reviewed existing controls <br />and stated they needed to be updated. He also outlined a service proposal for <br />monthly maintenance of the system. City Manager Sokoll recommended that seperate <br />bids be taken for the repair or replacement of the system and one for maintenance <br />of the system. A motion was made by Councilman Williams, seconded by Councilman <br />Burnett to authorize bids for the control system. Bid to be in two parts, one for <br />
