City Manager Sokoll recommended that the bid be awarded to Water Works Supply
Company of Texas in the amount of $17,164.80. A motion was made by Councilman
Williams, seconded by Councilman Burnett approving the bid of the Water Works
Supply Company of Texas. He further stated this appears to be desirable for two reasons:
(1) a savings in construction cost can be accomplished by constructing the
storage in this manner, and (2) your ability to deliver treated water into the
distribution system will be enhanced by increasing the position head on the
suction side of your high service pumps. Mr. Jacobs recommended that a 2.5
million gallons clearwell be provided and estimated its cost to be $550,000.00
Mr. Robert McWhirter, Attorney appeared in behalf of Midwest Video and requested
that the firm's franchise be renewed for a 25 year period. Mr. McWhirter stated
that two more years remain on the present franchise, and that the request was
made in order that the firm could begin plans and begin improving the system
in the amount of $200,000.00 replacing several miles of cable. He further
stated that two new stations were proposed for the present system; that the
Company was not asking any rate increase.
After discussion, Mayor Malone appointed a committe composed of Councilman
Fisher, Councilman Farris, Councilman Burnett to study the request and make
recommendations at the next regular Council meeting.
City Manager Sokoll presented the 1978 tax roll showing gross valuation of
$54,079,474.00 with exemption of $3,619,805.00 net valuation $50,459,669.00
with a net tax levy of $1,110,112.73 and recommended the approval of the 1978
tax roll. A motion was made by Councilman Wunsch, seconded by Councilman
Burnett for approval of the 1978 tax roll. Motion carried 7 ayes, 0 nays.
City Manager Sokoll presented a request from J. R. White for a water connection
in the gray area on Pine Mill Road, and recommended its approval.
