Mayor Brunette welcomed the newly elected Councilmen and their families and recognized <br />Municipal Court Judge Cedric Townsend who administered the Oath of Office to Councilmen <br />Burnett, Farris, Fisher and Williams. <br />The newly elected Councilmen took their seats. <br />Councilman Philley joined the meeting at this point. <br />Mayor Brunette stated this was his last day as a City Councilman and expressed to the <br />Council and audience his appreciation for the cooperation he had received during his <br />1.0 year tenure as a Councilman. He then stated that the charter provides that in-the <br />event the mayor is unable to serve for any reason the Mayor Pro --Tem is to assume his <br />responsibilities until such time as a mayor is chosen. With that remark he turned the <br />meeting over to Mayor Pro -Tem Williams who will serve as the presiding officer of the <br />Council until a permanent mayor is chosen at the next meeting. . <br />Mayor Williams assumed chairmanship and announced the next i *am was to review a schedule <br />for budget workshops and public hearings on the budget. <br />City Manager Greene gave each member a schedule and explained the reasons for the <br />meetin;s. He requested and the Council approved May b, 1978 at 9:00 A.M. as the date <br />for the first meeting which will be held in the City Hall Conference Room. <br />Mayor Williams expressed appreciation to Dr. James Brunette and Jimmy Don Stone for <br />their service on the City Council. <br />City Manager Greene voiced his personal thanks to Dr. Brunette for the fine working <br />relationship he had given to the Council and staff. <br />With no further business, the meeting was adjourned. <br />ATTEST: WALTER F.
