25 City Manager Sweatt advised the Council that only one bid had. been re- ceived on July 5, 19742 for Chassis and Cab to be used in the Sanitation Division for a Garbage Truck. Mr. Sweatt advised the Council that the bid was received from the Bill Booth Motor Company in the amount of $9:213.85. City Manager Sweatt recommended that the bid be approved in view of the non - availability of vehicles at this time, and that need for the Sanita- tion Truck was critical. A motion was made by Councilman Whitaker and seconded by Councilman King that the bid of Bill Booth Motor Company be approved. The motion carried: 6 ayes, O nays. Mrs. Lee Ochoa appeared before the Council requesting damages caused by sewer backup in her home at 1010 28th Street S. E. Urs. Ochoa stated that damages in the amount of $89.73 was requested. Mrs. Ochoa was ad- vised that the City did not assume liability in the event of sewer mal- functions* After discussion, a motion was made by Council % hitaker and seconded by Councilman Stone to deny the request. The motion carried: 6 ayes: 0 nays. ayor Brunette called for the report concerning petition received fo:c y3 :000 homestead exemption for persons 65 years of age and older. City Manager Sweatt stated that officials of the County, School and City had met and discussed the matter, and that it appeared to be the concensus to call for an election, and the City Manager so recommended. After discus- sion, a motion was made by Councilman Rainey and seconded by Councilman Whitaker that the election be approved in principle. The motion carried: 6 ayes, 0 nays. City Manager Sweatt advised the Council that he had employed Joe N.Mc- Collum as Director of Community Development: and requested confirmation by the Council. A motion was made by Councilman Whitaker and seconded by Councilman Rainey that the appointment be confirmed. The motion car- ried: 6 ayes, O nays. Resolution No. 1622, appointing Councilman Brad Hutchison to the Ark -Tex Council of Governments: was presented. A motion was made by Councilman Rainey and seconded by Councilman Stone that the Resolution be adopted. The motion carried: 6 ayes, 0 nays.
