310 <br />DARY LINE OF WEST HOUSTON STREET AND CONTINUING NORTH ACROSS <br />SAID STREET TO A POINT 2 FEET' NORTH OF THE NORTH BOUNDARY LINE <br />OF WEST HOUSTON STREET, FOR THE PURPOSE OF INSTALLING AND <br />MAINTAINING A SEVEN INCH (7 ") PNEUMATIC TUBE FOR THE PURPOSE OF <br />CONNECTING THE MAIN BANKING HOUSE OF THE FIRST NATIONAL BANK <br />OF PARIS WITH ITS DRIVE -IN BANKING FACILITY; PROVIDING FOR A <br />TERM OF TWENTY -FIVE (25) YEARS; AND FIXING THE RENTAL THEREOR." <br />was presented. A motion was made by Councilman Stone, seconded by Councilman <br />Sterling that the ordinance be approved on second reading. The motion carried: <br />7 ayes, 0 nays. <br />The next item for consideration was a.report by the City Manager concerning <br />Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Grant for the Wise Field Improvements. <br />City Manager Sweatt reviewed the background of this project which had been <br />initiated by the Noon Optimist Club for the purpose of building a baseball <br />field and related improvements on the Wise Field property. The City had <br />received word in late March of approval of a grant in the amount of $31,000.00 <br />which was to be matched by funds furnished by the Noon Optimists Club. A <br />letter was read from the President of-the Noon Optimist Club stating that <br />they had to withdraw their support for. the project and stated their reasons <br />why. Stating that this was still a worthwhile project, "vie are unable to <br />fund the full share from local government sources." Mr. Sweatt recommended <br />_ that he be-authorized to notify the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department of the <br />withdrawal.of the application. Mayor Brunette then requested a motion to <br />authorize the City Manager to withdraw the application. Councilman Whitaker <br />made the motion seconded by Councilman Moore. The motion carried.: 7 ayes, 0 nays. <br />Mayor Brunette stated the next item for_ consideration was a request of Mr. <br />Charles Chambers as an appeal to Section 27 -36, City Code regarding drive way <br />widths. Mr. Chambers was present and requested that he be allowed to <br />construct an additional 8' wide drive way opening to accommodate parking <br />space for his Travel Trailer. The ordinance limits the maximum width to 20' <br />for a drive way opening in a residential area. Mr. Chambers stated that he <br />needed a 26' wide opening to suite his purposes. Following discussion, <br />Councilman King made the motion, seconded by Councilman Sterling that Mr. <br />Chambers be allowed a 26' wide drive way opening. The motion carried: 7 ayes, <br />0 nays. <br />Mayor Brunette stated that the next item was considering an ordinance appoint- <br />ing the Equalization Board. <br />Ordinance 2218: <br />"AN ORDINANCE APPOINTING THREE MEMBERS TO THE EQUALIZATION BOARD <br />OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS, TO SERVE FOR THE CURRENT <br />TAXABLE YEAR, ESTABLISHING THE TIME FOR THE FIRST MEETING OF THE <br />EQUALIZATION BOARD, ESTABLISHING THE RATE OF PAY FOR THE MEMBERS OF <br />SAID BOARD, AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE ". <br />was presented. A motion was made by Councilman Stone, seconded by Councilman <br />Whitaker for the adoption of the ordinance. The motion carried: 7 ayes, 0 nays. <br />
