.338 City Manager Sweatt presented a petition for annexation signed by J. H. Blankinship, Joe Ben Early, Ernest Randle, Darrell White for property on the old Bonham Road, just east of the Gordon Country Club road. Mr. Sweatt. advised that water and sewer service was available to the area. Ordinance No. 2223: "AN ORDINANCE SETTING A DATE, TIME AND PLACE FOR A PUBLIC HEARING ON THE PROPOSED ANNEXATION OF CERTAIN PROPERTY BY THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS, AND AUTHORIZING AND DIRECT- ING THE MAYOR TO PUBLISH NOTICE OF SUCH PUBLIC HEARING." was presented. A motion was made by Councilman Sterling and seconded by Council- man Stone for the adoption of the ordinance. The motion carried: 7 ayes, 0 nays. City Manager Sweatt presented a tabulation of bids received on fifteen (15) lots of surplus property and recommended that the high bid be approved, and that Item 10, showing a like bid from 2 bidders be resolved by drawing lots. After dis- cussion, a motion was made by Councilman Sterling and seconded by Councilman Stone that the recommendation of the city manager be approved. The motion carried: 7 ayes, 0 nays. City Manager Sweatt presented a letter from the Paris Jaycees, stating their interest in a playground equipment project at Wade Park. Mr. Randy Reese, president of the local Jaycees, appeared before the Council, stating that the Jaycees proposed an ex- penditure. of $4,000.00 of which $2,000.00 could be funded by a federal grant, $1,000.00 by the Paris Jaycees, and $1,000.00 by the City of Paris. Mr. Reese pre- sented a facsimile check for $1,000,00 to Mayor Brunette. Resolution No. 1684, resolving that an application be made to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for a grant of $2,000.00, with the City of Paris and Paris Jay- cees providing $1,000.00 each, in inkind services and funds and authorizing City Manager Sweatt to execute and file such application for grant and designating Joe N. McCollum project director, was presented. A motion was made by Councilman Whitaker and seconded by Councilman Moore for the adoption ofthe resolution. The motion carried: 6 ayes, 0 nays, Councilman Hutchison abstaining from voting.
