.338 <br />City Manager Sweatt presented a petition for annexation signed by J. H. Blankinship, <br />Joe Ben Early, Ernest Randle, Darrell White for property on the old Bonham Road, <br />just east of the Gordon Country Club road. Mr. Sweatt. advised that water and sewer <br />service was available to the area. <br />Ordinance No. 2223: <br />"AN ORDINANCE SETTING A DATE, TIME AND PLACE FOR A PUBLIC <br />HEARING ON THE PROPOSED ANNEXATION OF CERTAIN PROPERTY BY <br />THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS, AND AUTHORIZING AND DIRECT- <br />ING THE MAYOR TO PUBLISH NOTICE OF SUCH PUBLIC HEARING." <br />was presented. A motion was made by Councilman Sterling and seconded by Council- <br />man Stone for the adoption of the ordinance. The motion carried: 7 ayes, 0 nays. <br />City Manager Sweatt presented a tabulation of bids received on fifteen (15) lots <br />of surplus property and recommended that the high bid be approved, and that Item <br />10, showing a like bid from 2 bidders be resolved by drawing lots. After dis- <br />cussion, a motion was made by Councilman Sterling and seconded by Councilman Stone <br />that the recommendation of the city manager be approved. The motion carried: 7 ayes, <br />0 nays. <br />City Manager Sweatt presented a letter from the Paris Jaycees, stating their interest <br />in a playground equipment project at Wade Park. Mr. Randy Reese, president of the <br />local Jaycees, appeared before the Council, stating that the Jaycees proposed an ex- <br />penditure. of $4,000.00 of which $2,000.00 could be funded by a federal grant, <br />$1,000.00 by the Paris Jaycees, and $1,000.00 by the City of Paris. Mr. Reese pre- <br />sented a facsimile check for $1,000,00 to Mayor Brunette. <br />Resolution No. 1684, resolving that an application be made to the Texas Parks and <br />Wildlife Department for a grant of $2,000.00, with the City of Paris and Paris Jay- <br />cees providing $1,000.00 each, in inkind services and funds and authorizing City <br />Manager Sweatt to execute and file such application for grant and designating Joe N. <br />McCollum project director, was presented. A motion was made by Councilman Whitaker <br />and seconded by Councilman Moore for the adoption ofthe resolution. The motion <br />carried: 6 ayes, 0 nays, Councilman Hutchison abstaining from voting. <br />
