6 <br />Mayor Brunette declared the next item on the agenda tabled which consigned a resolu- <br />tion regarding Texas Department of Highways and Transportation and John Culpepper <br />request for abandonment of excess right -of -way on Lamar Avenue. <br />City Manager Sweatt presented a request from Shirley Moles for water connection in <br />the gray area to the Lamar County line. City Manager Sweatt stated that the adminis- <br />tration had no objection to the connection provided that a recorded plat be furnished <br />or otherwise a building site be created. A motion was made by Councilman Stone and <br />seconded by Councilman King to approve the request. The motion carried: 4 ayes, <br />2 nays, Councilman Rainey and Councilman Whitaker voting nay. <br />Mayor Brunette called for the receipt of bids for an agricultural lease to excess <br />land at Cox Field, and the following bid was presented: Nelson Dairy,,$1,257.30. <br />City Manager Sweatt recommende& that.the bid be rejected.. <br />i <br />Mr. Jack Nelson appeared in.behalf of the bidder, Nelson Jersey Farm, stating that <br />his firm was not interested in running cattle on the property and that his bid was <br />based on approximately $1.00 per -acre annually. <br />.*A motion was made by Councilman King and seconded by Councilman Stone to reject the <br />bid and that new bids be called for. The motion carried: 6 ayes, 0 nays. <br />City Manager Sweatt advised that bids would be received on April 7, 1976 and pre- <br />sented to the City Council on April 12, 1976 at their regular Council meeting. <br />Mayor Brunette called for the presentation of bids received for tape logging re- <br />cording equipment, and the following bids were received: <br />Dictaphone Corporation $13,226.72 <br />Magnasyne Motorolo $15,660.00 <br />City Manager Sweatt advised that the Criminal Justice Council was prepared to fund <br />100% of the project up to $13,600.00 and recommended approval of the low bid. A <br />motion was made by Councilman Rainey and seconded by Councilman Whitaker to approve <br />the recommendation of the city manager. The motion carried: 6-4yes, 0 nays. <br />City Manager Sweatt advised the Council that Mr. Wesley Willingham had been appointed <br />public utilities superintendent and requested confirmation as required by City Char- <br />ter. A motion was made by Councilman Stone and seconded by Councilman Sterling to <br />confirm the appointment. -The motion carried: 6 ayes, 0 nays. <br />City Manager Sweatt advised the Council of the appointment of Ike Fennell as public <br />streets and sanitation superintendent and requested confirmation by the City Council <br />as required by City Charter. A motion was made by Councilman Rainey and seconded by <br />Councilman Whitaker to confirm the appointment., The motion carried: 6 ayes, 0 nays. <br />E1 <br />
