63 0 <br />MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />�— March 12, 1976 <br />A special meeting of the City Council was held on March 12, 1976 at the Municipal <br />Court Room at 6:00 P. M. The meeting was called to order by Mayor James M. Bru- <br />nette with the following Councilmen present: Joe King, 0.1. Rainey and Doyle <br />Whitaker. Also present were City Manager K. R. Sweatt,. City Attorney T. K. Haynes:, <br />and City Clerk H. C. Greene. <br />Mayor Brunette declared the Council in executive session to discuss litigation <br />against the City of Paris, and the Council Room was cleared. <br />City Attorney Haynes and Don McLaughlin, Attorney in behalf of the City of Paris, <br />gave the Council an updating of information concerning the re- districting suit <br />presently in the hands of Federal Judge Wayne Justice. Mr. Haynes advised that <br />Leighton Cornett, plaintiff Attorney, was demanding a judgment and that the judge, <br />had given the City an opportunity to submit an alternate plan by Monday, March 15, <br />1976. <br />Mayor Brunette declared the executive session concluded, and the regular session open. <br />A motion was made by Councilman King and seconded by Councilman Rainey that Plane II <br />for re- districting City of Paris or any other four single member districts similar <br />in numerical population and reasonably symetrical in shape and three at -large dis- <br />tricts be recommended to the voters of Paris as an amendment to.its Charter upon <br />approval by the court.
