Motion carried, 6 ayes — 0 nays. <br />A Motion to approve this item was made by Council Member Pickle and seconded by <br />Council Member Frierson. Motion carried, 6 ayes — 0 nays. <br />13. Deliberate and provide direction on acquisition of the former roadside park on Highway <br />82 West for the purpose of using it as a City Park. <br />At the direction of City Council, Gene Anderson brought this item back for <br />consideration. He explained three options for development of the park and stated that annual <br />maintenance cost would be approximately $1,200. City Council discussed the cost of <br />construction of a privacy fence or planting hedges, and aluminum picnic tables. Council <br />Member Wright said prior to making a decision he would like to know the cost associated with <br />building a privacy fence instead of planting hedges. <br />A Motion to table this item was made by Council Member Wright and seconded by <br />Council Member Frierson. Motion carried, 6 ayes — 0 nays. <br />14. Deliberate and act on the purchase of capital items. <br />It was a consensus of City Council to approve the purchase of the capital items presented, <br />with the exception of the one pneumatic roller for the Street Department. City Council asked <br />that additional information on this item be brought back for consideration. <br />15. Presentation by the EMS Director, deliberate and act on a request to engage an architect <br />to design and develop bid specifications for construction of a new EMS station. <br />EMS Director Kent Klinkerman explained that the North District EMS quarters were <br />extremely cramped and lack adequate kitchen, bathroom and bedroom space. Mr. Klinkerman <br />said that the Hospital and North Lamar ISD vehicle traffic hampered response times. He asked <br />that the EMS Department be authorized to engage an architect to design and develop bid <br />specifications suitable for constructing an EMS station. <br />City Council discussed possible locations for a new station, taking one of the ambulances <br />to the Bonham Street station and one ambulance to Fire Station No. 1. Mr. Klinkerman <br />expressed concern about appropriate bunk space for employees and not having a back -up <br />ambulance if the two ambulances were at separate locations. Council Member Grossnickle said <br />that Paris had one of the best EMS Departments and in the long run a new station would be a <br />.! <br />
