Regular Council Meeting <br />August 27, 2012 <br />�a ew <br />Page 5 <br />A Motion requiring that all projects over $400,000 be brought to City Council for <br />approval was made by Council Member Wright and seconded by Council Member Frierson. <br />Motion carried, 7 ayes — 0 nays. <br />Mayor Hashmi moved to item 12. <br />12. Discussion on the 2012 -2013 Budget for the City of Paris. <br />Mayor Hashmi said he had provided a comparison chart of similar sized cities and their <br />budgets to reflect what other cities were doing. He noted that Paris' general fund had more in <br />reserves than any of the other cities and that the City of Marshall had a combination Fire/ EMS <br />Department. He called upon Chief Hundley and Chief Grooms to give an explanation of their <br />staffing levels. Based on 2008 State statistics, Chief Hundley gave a police call comparison <br />between Paris Police Department and other police departments. Mayor Hashmi asked that the <br />department heads be present at the budget workshops when their budgets were to be discussed. <br />Council Member Wright suggested that the department heads be scheduled and that Mr. Godwin <br />inform Council of which departments would be discussed on which days. Mr. Godwin asked <br />Council how many meetings they were going to plan. Mayor Hashmi said they were scheduled <br />for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday but could go further if needed. It was a consensus of <br />Council to begin the meetings at 5:00 p.m. Mr. Godwin asked Council if they had items they <br />needed staff to research, to please let him know so that staff could have it ready for Council. <br />16. Consider and approve future events for City Council and/or City Staff pursuant to <br />Resolution No. 2004 -081. <br />Mayor Hashmi reminded everyone of the budget workshops scheduled for September 4, <br />5, 6, and 7 at 5:00 p.m. if needed. <br />17. Adjournment. <br />There being no further business, a Motion to adjourn was made by Council Member <br />Frierson and was seconded by Council Member Drake. Motion carried, 7 ayes — 0 nays.
