Commissioner Alsobrook called the meeting to order, noted a quorum present
2. Motion to approve February 10, 2015 minutes by Commissioner Peoples, seconded
by Commissioner Barbee, motion carried 6 -0
3. A. & B. Due to the nature of properties being one building divided into two store fronts on
the ground level, the Certificates of Appropriateness for 124 SW 1 st Street and 128 SW 1 st
Street were considered at the same time.
Richard Hunt addressed the commission explaining the plans on the renovations of the
building located at 124 & 128 SW 1 s` Street, the second phase of the project. Phase one was
the upper facade removal and restoration and is complete. Mr. Hunt explained his
renovations are to include a recess store front on both properties and they would be mirror
images of the other. The historic building was repurposed into drive through motor bank in
the 1960's for Liberty National Bank. The original floor was raised up 24 inches at that time
and a ramp was installed. Mr Hunt has proposed leveling the drive through ramp by using
concrete and raising the floor in front of the building to a height level to match the inside of
the building, and not to extend past the buildings original fagade. Sketches were presented
that explained that Mr Hunt intended to use wooden doors recessed interior approximately 7
feet into the building and the material will be mostly glass for lighting purposes. A patio will
be built where the existing ramp is located. Commissioner Dux questioned the number of
doors utilized, and asked if Mr. Hunt considered using a large window in place of the middle
doors similar to other buildings in the district. Mr. Hunt explained that he is using doors to
have the option to open up the patio in the front for an open air feature. Commissioner
Peeples stated that he visited the property and also consulted the Secretary oflnterior
Standard for direction. It was his recommendation that based on SO-IS listed below the
renovations listed in the COA was compatible with the district and should therefore be
recommended for approval.
