#4 Changes to a property that have acquired historic significance in their own right will be <br />retained and preserved. <br />#9. New additions, exterior alterations, or related new construction will not destroy historic <br />materials, features, and spatial relationships that characterize the property. The new work will <br />be differentiated from the old and will be compatible with the historic materials, features, size, <br />scale and proportion, and massing to protect the integrity of the property and its environment. <br />Motion to approve the COA for both 124 a & 128 SW 1st Street as presented was made by <br />Commissioners Phillip Peeples, Seconded by Linda Knox motion carried 6 - 0 <br />4. HPO presented to the commission that no COA's administratively approved in January. <br />However a facade grant request was submitted for reimbursement to finance department. <br />Mosher Law Firm Facade Grant $2500 for work completed at 50 S. Main. COA #2015 -033 <br />Exterior remodel, approved September 9, 2016 <br />5. Discussion on promotional and educational activities for HPC outreach and discussed the <br />tour was an ambitious goal, but might be put on the back burner for the time being. Linda <br />Knox liked the handbook idea with to distribute to the neighborhood. Commissioner <br />Peeples suggested we investigate promotional video by James Wyatt and Phillip peoples <br />offered to contact him for a price. Commissioner Alsobrook talked about using social <br />media for the website with This Place Matters suggested by HPO, and using the grant <br />recipients as a start to the campaign. Commissioner Dux expressed options for a tour and <br />video tours, and charging to help cover the cost. Commissioner Alsobrook added this is <br />something to consider for the future. <br />Action taken: Commissioner Alsobrook will be in touch with Cheri Bedford, HPO on <br />Social Media campaign. Commissioner Peeples will find out about virtual video building <br />tour, both will report at the next meeting. <br />6. Future agenda Items: Survey Monkey for questions to visitors, Pat Conrad <br />Fire Chief Wright addressed the commission on the fire department and their concerns. The fire <br />department is looking for ways to being flexible as they understand the 100 year old building <br />can never be brought up to the all the code. Their intention is not the stifle business with <br />burdensome codes or immaculate sprinklers systems when not necessary, but he explained that <br />life safety is of utmost important. They are looking at the possibility from afire safety from <br />unmanaged storage that creates a higher fire risk. Not to be confused with storage for a <br />working business. <br />7. A motion to adjourn was made by Commissioner Barbee, seconded by Commissioner <br />Conrad, motion carried 6 — 0 <br />Meeting adjourned at 4:38 p.m. <br />Next meeting scheduled for March 9, 2016. <br />
