Paris Public Library Advisory Board Minutes January 19, 2011 The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at 4 p.m. in the Library Gallery. Chairman Bill Kennedy called the meeting to order. Others in attendance were Hilda Mallory, Deborah Hatley, Linda Vandiver, Debbie Anderson, Library Director Priscilla McAnally, and Friends of the Library Co -Chair Amanda Green. Minutes from the previous meeting were approved as printed. The Director presented her goals and priorities for 2011, some of which have already been accomplished. Library cards dormant since 2007 have been purged from the system. Other goals include: 1. Purge database of missing items 2. Weed fiction, science fiction, juvenile non - fiction, and juvenile easy reader collections 3. Increased staff participation in job related face -to -face workshops and online tutorials 4. More cross - training 5. 1 st Friday monthly breakfast for staff 6. Better Director -staff communication 7. Increase DVD check -out limit to four per patron 8. Increase circulation of downloadable audios and music 9. More materials for displays (the Friends have volunteered to help fund) 10. Building and grounds repairs and enhancements 11. Spring event similar to chili cook -off 12. Painting the front doors 13. Buying earbuds for public access computers at a cost of 80 cents and selling them for $1. Other suggestions included restoring access to the computer in the adult fiction section and more articles for the newspaper. Statistical report reflected a decrease in both circulation and visits; however, the door counter was not functioning properly this time last year. This may account for part of the decrease in visits. The library is currently short- staffed due to illnesses. April 6 is the Friends luncheon with Kathleen Kent.
