<br />RESOLUTION NO. 98-059
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris did heretofore, on the 13th day of
<br />April, 1998, in Ordinance No. 98-016, declare the candidates for District 1 and District 2, for the
<br />May 2, 1998, election, elected to office for terms beginning May 7, 1998, after having received
<br />certification from the City Clerk that such candidates were unopposed for election to office with
<br />no write-in candidates being declared; and,
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris did heretofore, in said Ordinance No.
<br />98-016, determine that no election be held in District 1 and District 2 as permitted by V.T.C.A.,
<br />Election Code, Section 2.053; and,
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, an election was held by the qualified voters of Districts 3 and 6 of the City
<br />of Paris, Paris, Texas, on the 2nd day of May, 1998, for the purpose of voting for and electing
<br />the Council member from each of said Districts to serve as members of the City Council for the
<br />ensuing two (2) years; and,
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, as required by Order of the District Court of the United States for the
<br />Eastern District of Texas, Paris Division, in Civil Action No. P-75- lCA, and as provided in the
<br />Charter of the City of Paris and the laws of the State of Texas wherein they do not conflict with
<br />said Order, such election was conducted and held at two (2) specified and designated polling
<br />places, that is one polling place in Districts 3 and 6, and early voting of the City of Paris, Paris,
<br />Texas, with no elections being held in Districts I and 2, as permitted in V.T.C.A., Election Code,
<br />Section 20.53; and,
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, sealed returns of said election, made by the duly appointed and designated
<br />election officials of and for the two (2) respective voting boxes, have been made to the Mayor and
<br />City Council of the City of Paris, as required by law, which returns, after due and deliberate
<br />review and canvass thereof, show the following results of said election, to-wit:

<br />(1) IN DISTRICT ONE (1), THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, AFTER
<br />RECEIVING CERTIFICA nON FROM THE CITY CLERK THAT THE CANDIDATE
<br />W AS UNOPPOSED FOR ELECTION TO OFFICE WITH NO WRITE-IN
<br />CANDIDATES BEING DECLARED, DECLARED THE FOLLOWING CANDIDATE
<br />ELECTED TO OFFICE:
