<br /> <br /> <br /> CITY COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM BRIEFING SHEET <br /> <br /> Submittal Date: Originating Department: Presented By: Agenda Item No.: <br /> 05/16/11 <br /> Council Date: City Clerk Janice Ellis 11. <br /> 05/23/11 <br /> RECOMMENDED MOTION: <br /> Move to approve a Resolution contracting for election services with the Lamar County Elections <br /> Administrator for the Runoff Election; and authorizing the City Manager to negotiate and execute all <br /> necessary documents. <br /> POLICY ISSUES): <br /> Elections <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> <br /> For the past several years, the City of Paris has contracted with the Lamar County Elections <br /> Administrator for election services connected with the City of Paris Regular Municipal Elections and <br /> Special Elections. Doing so has benefited the citizens of Paris, in that we have been able to combine <br /> polling places producing a cost savings and city staff labor cost has been reduced. Pursuant to Federal <br /> Law, every polling place is required to have a DRE in order to be compliant with the Help America Vote <br /> Act and the County purchased those machines. In addition, citizens will benefit from the election being <br /> conducted in the manner in which they have been accustomed to over the last several years. <br /> <br /> Functions to be performed by the County Elections Administrator and City Clerk are set out in the <br /> Contract.
