<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> ORDINANCE NO. 94-028 <br /> <br /> <br /> AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS, PROVIDING THAT <br /> THE CODE OF ORDINANCES, CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS, BE AMENDED BY <br /> ADDING SECTIONS 2-4 AND 2-5 TO CHAPTER 2, ARTICLE I OF SAID CODE; <br /> PROVIDING FOR THE ELECTION OF A COUNCIL MEMBER FROM DISTRICTS IN <br /> ALTERNATING EVEN AND ODD YEARS; PROVIDING FOR THE DESIGNATION OF <br /> POLLING PLACES WITHIN EACH DISTRICT; PROVIDING FOR POSTING NOTICE <br /> OF SUCH ELECTIONS; AND PROVIDING FOR SUBMISSION FOR PRECLEARANCE <br /> TO THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMF:NT OF JUSTICE. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, <br /> PARIS, TEXAS: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That the Code of Ordinance of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas, be amended <br /> by adding sections 2-4 and 2-5 to Chapter 2, Article I, to read as follows: <br /> <br /> "CHAPTER 2 <br /> <br /> ARTICLE I. IN GENERAL <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Sec.2-4. ELECTION. <br /> <br /> In accordance with the statutes and laws of the State of Texas and the Charter of <br /> the City of Paris, elections for the position of City Council member shall be held in and <br /> for the City of Paris on the first Saturday in May of each year. In odd numbered years, <br /> beginning in May of 1995, council members from Districts Four (4), Five (5) and Seven <br /> (7) shall be elected. In even numbered years, begiilning May of 1996, council members <br /> from Districts One (1), Two (2), Three (3) and Six (6) shall be elected. Each council <br /> member shall be elected to a two year term. Notwithstanding the aforesaid, no duly <br /> elected council member shall be prevented from serving his full term. <br /> <br /> The Election Schedule of the City of Paris is in conformity with the Texas <br /> Election Code, and is an act within the authority of the City Council of the City of Paris. <br /> All elections for the positions of city council members shall be "open" to any voter or <br /> candidate, regardless of that individua('s party affiliation or prior voting history. <br /> <br /> <br /> Sec. 2-5. DISTRICTS AND POLLING PLACES. <br /> <br /> ~ That said elections shall be held in the desiguated Districts within the City and <br /> ~ at the designated polling places within the Districts as follows: <br /> <br /> District One (1): <br /> <br /> Polling Place: City of Paris Public Works Building <br /> 50 West Hickory <br /> <br /> District Two (2): <br /> <br /> Polling Place: Paris Police and Municipa] Court Building <br /> 811 Bonham Street <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> 1 <br />
