Wright, Director of Community Development <br />DESCRIPTION: ° <br />Consideration of and action on authorizing staff to seek competitive bids for t <br />demolition and disposal of debris of Casa Bonita. he <br />BACKGROUND INFORMATION: <br />HISTORY: In mid-2006, the Community Development Director commissioned a <br />asbestos survey of the westernmost collapse~ building of the Casa Bonita com lex in <br />hopes that the City could begin a demolition process that would eliminate at le st one <br />building a year from the area. On June 20, 2006, Brady Environmental Services In <br />submitted an Asbestos Inspection Report on the building, and the report found tha <br />nonfriable asbestos containing materials were located throughout the buildin in the <br />floor tile and mastic, sheetrock compound, and wall texture (survey attach d. A <br />estimate to demolish the building was $36,800.00, which is nearl half ) n <br />department's annual budget for demolitions. Because adequate funds did not of the <br />in the budget at that time of the year, and because other demolitions were alr adn <br />scheduled, the project was placed on hold. y <br />Beginning in February of 2007, the Communit Develo m <br />estimates from two demolition companies certified to remove ent Director sought <br />environmental hazards. In April, Dtech Services submitted an e buildings containmg <br />$371,097.00 for asbestos abatement, sampling, demolition and dmate (attached) of <br />landfill. This estimate did not include the ~andfill fee or the Texas Delivery to the local <br />Health Services (TDSHS) fee, which could increase the actual cost to ent of State <br />$200,000.00 to $250,000.00, which is again solely an estimate based on 7 the City by <br />debris; however, the actual tonnage of the debris generated is difficult to e~800 tons of <br />any accuracy. A second estimate was submitted in Ma 2007st~ ate with <br />Environmental (attached) in the amount of $435,000.00, with addit onal monitorinBrady <br />. 9 <br />
