unqualified workers, four men plus equipment spent approximately eight
hours accomplishing nothing.
Bud Buster was asked to look over the situation. He does not feel a
tiller would do the job. Mr. Buster gave an estimate of $800. to do
the job. This seems to be less than what it is costing the City using
their own employees and equipment.
A motion was made by Victor Abeles to recommend to the City of Paris to
contract with a private contractor if it feels it does not have the
qualified people at this time to straighten out the drainage problem
essential in protecting the airport runways since over $70,000 of
taxpayer's money has been spent in making repairs and improvements.
Further inspection of the airport revealed an appalling situation
regarding the area in front of the fuel storage tanks. The Board
wonders why the city dug out a good base, consisting of a foot of white
rock. This took four men with a backhoe two hours to bust out. Then
without any obvious changes, expansion, etc., they simply replaced the
foot of white rock which probably cost the city $1000 to $1500 of
taxpayer's money.
After viewing the - situation, the advisory board suggests that now since
part of the area is already torn up that the city go ahead and include
the area on both sides of the area in front of the storage tanks since
both areas are small and it will enable the large tankers to turn
safely from the access road to unload the fuel. Also, if they will
overlay the area from Wren's hangar to Join the pad in front, this
whole area will not only look better, but it will be more serviceable.
Mr. Burress put into motion a request that Mr. Boots explain to the
City Council why all this time and money has been spent without the
obvious council of an engineer or at least an experienced contractor to
avoid unneeded work or futile attempts at doing work it is not
qualified to do. Victor Abeles seconded the motion and it carried.
Mr. Collier's report on fuel tanks along with Mr. Clifford's report on
self - fueling will be carried forward to the next meeting.
After the next meeting agenda was discussed, Mr. Bill Boothe moved that
the meeting be adjourned, seconded by Victor Abeles. Motion carried.
O-C_9
