In July, the Texas Rangers Reading Program will start. <br />Children who complete the required reading logs will be eligible to receive $5 <br />tickets for them and each member of their family to the August 4t", 2022 Texas <br />Rangers game. <br />g. Girl Scouts. The Girl Scouts will begin hosting STEM programs on Tuesdays and <br />Thursdays. Their first activity will be how to build a campfire and make smores. <br />h. Fantasy Writing Class: Local writer and intern for The Paris News, Kareyn <br />Hellmann will be offering a six-week Fantasy writing class each Friday at 4. This <br />will be a way for her to give back to the community before returning back to <br />college in the fall. <br />i. Read with Me: The Read with Me program is going very well and now includes <br />three therapy dogs. Tracy says this is a fun, stress -free activity for kids. There is a <br />sign-up sheet and Read with Me is held once a month on Saturdays. <br />j. Steve asked if Storytime would be returning to live streaming via the library's <br />Facebook account. Ron noted that the lighting and wifi connectivity outside on <br />the deck are not great so they temporarily halted live -streaming. Steve <br />mentioned his concern that since the library began live -streaming, the online <br />presence has been a positive aspect and he doesn't want that to be lost for the <br />library. Ron said that he would contact the City of Paris IT department to see <br />how he can fix the issue. <br />k. 1000 Books: The 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program is doing great. Tracy <br />received 86 completed sheets so far, meaning that 8,600 books have been read <br />or read to children in the program. Ron also noted that the circulation for <br />children's books skyrocketed since the implementation of the program, as well <br />as the elimination of children's late fees. The board members in attendance <br />agreed that this was a good thing for the children in the community. <br />V. Old Business: New Director Search <br />a. So far, one application has been received. The applicant has experience with <br />libraries in penitentiaries. Steve asked if the city provides a competitive salary <br />and Assistant City Manager Rob Vine said yes and that there is a hiring shortage <br />across the region. <br />b. The window for applications will remain open until filled. <br />c. Board members Steve Hellmann and Jennifer Cullum will participate in the <br />applicant interview process, once there are enough qualified applicants. <br />VI. Presentations: <br />a. Budget Report <br />The budget was reviewed by members of the board. The total expenditures for <br />Fiscal Year 2022 so far amount to $458,280.69, which is 62% of the FY 2022 <br />budget. <br />Tim asked Ron if there were any immediate concerns. Ron said no, and that <br />previous Library Director Tim DeGhelder's salary had been absorbed back into <br />the budget. Rob noted that the budget meeting with the City Manager will be <br />
