held on June 16th, 2022. Rob also noted that the current budget balance sheet
could include the percentages of available funds for the fiscal year, so that they
wouldn't have to be calculated by hand. Jennifer Cullum noted that it would be
helpful to have those percentages for the minutes.
b. Statistical Report
Ron noted that everything is slightly down but that the Children's books and
programs are holding strong. Steve mentioned that if the children's books are
continuously doing well and outperforming the other areas of circulation, it
might be time to discuss reallocating funds toward children.
DeEtte wanted to know why there weren't any volunteer hours in 2021. Ron
explained that due to COVID-19'the volunteer program was not in service. Since
beginning the program again, the library has experienced a growth in people
wanting to volunteer. Ron also noted that there's always something for
volunteers to do and they make all the difference in the back room. Ron stated
that anyone interested in volunteering would speak with Judy is heads that
program and the minimum age to volunteer is 16.
VII. Friends of the Library Report
Friends of the Library President Audrey Mathieu was not present at the board
meeting and there was no news to update the board members on.
VIII. Director's Notes
a. Ron is working on the budget right now and will have it balanced soon. The
library is about $27,000 over the budget request from last year, which can be
explained by the request for building updates and maintenance. Ron is
attempting to keep everything that Tim DeGhelder had in place while also trying
to prepare for a new director.
b. Ron wanted to mention the professionalism and outstanding efforts of the
library staff during this period of transition. He states that the staff knows their
jobs well and rarely need advising from him as Interim. Ron says that the new
director will be inheriting an exemplary staff and that they are very lucky.
c. Steve inquired about the Teen Librarian position. Ron said that it still has to be
approved and that Rob hopes to keep the position.
d. DeEtte asked Rob about placing lights in the library trees, as she noticed trees in
the Downtown Square were having lights placed in them. Rob responded saying
that the city has four phases of lighting. The first one being the Downtown
Square trees. Rob hopes that all four phases are finished by next year. DeEtte
asked to have the library trees out front adorned with lights and to include it in
the budget. Ron said that its possible for Friends to help with this or perhaps a
fundraiser. DeEtte stated that the library building is an important, historic
building and it should receive attention. Ron mentioned that this is the 901h
anniversary for the library and DeEtte noted that something should be done to
recognize the library for that.
