Lamar County — Paris Economic Development Plan <br />8. A commercial airport, one which provides direct air service to major hubs, is essential to most <br />businesses today. <br />A. The Task: Within one year, the community will devise an ongoing plan to create <br />more air traffic at Cox Field. <br />This task shall be assigned to: The City of Paris. <br />9. High speed telecommunications capability will become even more important in the future. <br />A. The Task: Within one year, the community will create a "Telecommunications Task <br />Force" to evaluate the current telecommunications system in the area and devise a <br />plan to create a "21 st Century" system in the future. <br />This task shall be assigned to: A special task force created by the PEDC. <br />10. Institutions of higher education have been a catalyst for economic growth in many <br />communities. <br />A. The Task: Within one year, a special task force comprised of business, government, <br />and educational leaders will investigate how other community colleges in the United <br />States have interfaced with their community to enhance economic growth. The task <br />force will then create a plan which interfaces with Paris Junior College in efforts to <br />enhance the Paris economy. <br />This task shall be assigned to: A special task force created by the PEDC and PJC. <br />B. The Task: Within two years, the Paris business community, county & city <br />government, and the PEDC will implement the plan recommended by the task force <br />and form a partnership with the Paris Junior College to create long term programs to <br />directly help to improve the economy of Paris. <br />This task shall be assigned to: PEDC. <br />11. The "Business Climate" created by local government can have a positive or negative <br />influence on the local economy. <br />A. The Task: Within one year of employment, the PEDC Executive Director will <br />prepare a report detailing issues created by the county and city government which <br />have a positive or negative influence upon the primary employers in the county. <br />This task shall be assigned to: PEDC. <br />Paris Economic Development Corporation Page 4 <br />
