"- ..: Finance---* "' The Accounting and Auditing Department is responsible for maintaining the City's accounting records and directing the activities of the Finance DePartment. Responsibilities include internal audits, budgetary controls, financial reports, and processing all City revenue and disbursements. 31 Police Public Safety The mission of the Police Department is to protect life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances. Crime prevention, patrol, traffic enforcement, and criminal investigations are examples of activities performed by this department. The services division includes animal control, communications, and records activities. The Police Department maintains the Emergency Operations Center, the City tornado warning system and Emergency Plan. 32 '" Fire Public Safety The purpose of the Fire Department is to prevent life and property loss by providing fire prevention and fire suppression services. Fire safety inspection, fire-fighting, and investigation of the causes of rites are primary duties of the department. Emergency rescue personnel and equipment are provided by this department. The training division conducts in service and special programs to maintain proficiency of personnel. 41 Engineering Public Works The Engineering Department designs routine public work improvement project, coordinates the work of consulting engineers under contract with the City, performs design work on special public work improvement projects such as water and wastewater bond projects, inspects public work improvement projects, responsible for the administration of the City's zoning ordinances, all building and electrical inspections, code enforcement, planning work, provides staff assistance to other City departments and reviews all land development projects.
