Therefore, in less than 120 days, we will go <br />from exploration to execution...of not anather report but of a specific detailed initiative. <br />Final Observation of the Advisorv Committee <br />A food and consumer goods manufacturing initiative has been adopted in concept <br />because it offers a response to our competitive advantage in the Paris Region. It cannot <br />resolve every challenge nor problem facing the region, but we will look to apply the <br />elements of previous work by PEDC and the community to ensure that we are ]inking and <br />leveraging concerns and barriers. Simply, through a Manufacturing Initiative, we CAN <br />address workforce and skills, infrastructure, community outreach and inclusion, <br />entrepreneurial and new business development, and similar issues that have been <br />discussed over the years. However, we must be highly targeted and focused with your <br />time and energies - and therefore we will have to make tough choices about how we <br />allocate those energies and therefore existing and future resources to achieve success. <br />The most important challenge for the Advisory Committee and subsequent work is a key <br />phrase: "No champion, no initiative; no leader, no result... " <br />The Project Advisory Committee - and the larger community that will eventually become <br />part of the strategic implementation - must look to themselves as both champions and <br />]eaders to ensure that the initiative and results are the best selected for our region and our <br />long-term agenda. The consultant, Che PEI)C staff, and even elected officials are not the <br />sole source of champions and leaders - this must be a civic-driven, private sector focused <br />plan and implementation. <br />55 <br />
