393 - Replace Flush Tank w/ Standard Manhole
Flush tanks, which were previously used to clean lines with a large flush of water,
were another unusual condition encountered. It is recommended that all flush
tanks be replaced with a standard manhole.
394 - Replace EOL, Tee, or Cleanout w/ Standard Manhole
It is recommended that manholes be placed at all ends of lines and at all junctions
between two or more mainlines, to facilitate inspection and reduce maintenance
costs.
395 - Replace Oval Frame and Cover w/ Standard Frame and Cover
The oval-shaped manhole frame and cover found on some brick is sub-standard
and requires replacement. The rehab code addresses replacing the cover and
frame with a standard round cover and frame. In a paved area, rehabilitation
entails removing pavement to gain access and excavation to remove the frame.
The new frame is sealed to the corbel or chimney, followed by backfilling and
pavement replacement.
84 - Unidentified Smoke Leak - Dye Test Required
Manhole defects found during smoke testing are typically characterized as either
frame defects, frame seal defects, chimney defects, cone defects, or wall defects.
There are instances, however, where the manhole appears to be in good condition
from physical inspection. These defects should be dye tested to determine the
exact nature of the problem, and the cost for this rehab code includes only the
cost to dye test.
ADS Environmental Services, Inc.
VI-16
