Ti <br />Stone presented <br />the request on behalf of the First Baptist Church f <br />r installation of a <br />new playground. Mr. Stone stated that they did n <br />t want children to <br />cross 3rd Street, so the playground was to be b <br />Ailt on the church <br />proper with a 1' retaining wall with a cast iron fenc <br />' and landscaping. <br />Chairman Starrett advised Mr. Stone that the fence <br />ias not included on <br />the application. Chairman Starrett informed the C <br />mmission that he <br />had spoken with the Texas Historic Commission, an <br />they advised that, <br />in the strictest sense by the Secretary of the Interio <br />'s Standards, this <br />type of playground is not appropriate at this <br />'location, but the <br />Commission wants to work with the church. <br />They made three <br />recommendations: (1) that the front of the equipmen <br />be set back as far <br />under the loggia as possible; (2) that the equipm <br />nt should be in a <br />blond putty color to match the brick color of the bu <br />ilding; and (3) that <br />screening be placed to hide view of the equipme <br />t from the street. <br />Chairman Starrett asked Mr. Stone, if the Commissio <br />n were to table this <br />item, would he be able to get information about the <br />' nce and the color <br />of the equipment by next month's meeting, and Mr. <br />tone stated that he <br />could. The Commission advised Mr. Stone that the <br />would like to see <br />a photo of the proposed fence and a drawing showi <br />g how it relates to <br />the building and how the landscaping would relate t <br />the fence. Motion <br />to table this item was made by Sue Lancaster, <br />econded by Jerry <br />Raper. Motion carried 7-0. Motion to allow Brian W <br />ear to return to the <br />meeting was made by Paul Denney, seconded by Jo <br />rry Raper. Motion <br />carried 7-0. <br />
