City Council Meeting <br />April 9, 2001 <br />Page 9 <br />Finance to review and approve any and all necessary documents incident <br />to the receipt of said funding, was presented. <br />After discussion, a motion was made by Councilman McCarthy, seconded <br />by Councilman Bell for approval of the resol ution. The motion carried 7 <br />ayes, 0 nays. <br />City Manager Malone reported that, to date, the contractors for the Storm <br />Debris Removal Program have picked up 177,741.15 cubic yards of brush <br />and storm debris at a cost of $616,761.79. He said that a total of 872 <br />various siz e stumps have been hauled and ground up at a cost of <br />$179,050.00. A total of $408,601.11 has been expended for tub grinding of <br />the debris that has been hauled in, which includes approximately 54,000 <br />cubic yards that was hauled to the staging site by the public, for a total <br />expenditure of $1,204,412.90. The City Manager discussed a recent <br />meeting held with FEMA and a representative from the State Coordinating <br />Board concerning reimbursement for stump removal. City Manager Malone <br />reported that a representative from Stat e Representative Mark Homer’s <br />office and a representative from C ongressman Sandlin’s office participated <br />in the meeting and the questioned costs are under review by FEMA. He <br />said there is a question of whether or not they will go along with the totals <br />the city has presented for the yards of brush that was picked up and the <br />way it was measured, but the city still expects to get what the government <br />told us they would do, which amounts to $1,204,412.90 to date. He <br />reminded the City Council that the contract has been extended to the end <br />of April for making the final pass. <br />City Manager Malone reported th a t the Neathery Street Drainage Project <br />has been completed, and there will be a change order presented at a future <br />city council meeting when it is prepared. <br />The Cit y Manager reported that the utilities for the Long Avenue <br />Improvement Project were in place and the project is proceeding. He said <br />the next stage of the project is the paving and Stephens and Sons is the <br />contractor which will be doing the paving. <br />The City Manager stated that the contractor for the MLK Improvement <br />Project is also Stephens and Sons and they have not yet started on this <br />project. They are going to finish the Long Avenue Improvement Project <br />first. <br />
