(j) Armored cable, known to the electrical trade as "BX", will <br />not be approved for use as metallic conduit in any new build- <br />ings, and only when it is impossible to install other types or <br />approved conduits in buildings already constructed. <br />Section 18, NUMBER OF OUTLETS ALLO NED AND BRANGH CIRCUITS, <br />(a) Not more than eight (8) outlets shall be install.ed on any one (1) circuit <br />in a residence. <br />(b) Drop cords must not be installed in clothes closets or in places wnere <br />wearing apparel is likely to be hung; however, ceiling fixtures will be permissable. <br />(c) All lights in bathrooms, toilets and kitchens shall be controlled by wall <br />switche s . <br />(d) On alI three wire installations, the load must be balanced as nearly as <br />possible with respect to each side of the system. <br />(e) All joints must be soldered and taped wn.en the wire is pulled in, and a11 <br />fixture leads shall be soldered or a fixture connector used. <br />(f) W nenever a fuse is required by the provisions of this Qrdinance, the re- <br />quirement may be met by the use of an approved circuit breaker for such purpose. <br />Whenever a sw4tch9 or a switch and fuses are required, an approved manually <br />operated circuit breaker may be used. If a circuit breaker is used, there shall <br />be an over-current unit in each ungrounded conductor of the circuit. <br />(g) That no person, firm or corporation, shalZ wi.re any building or any <br />structure by running the electrical wires through thestuds around the walls in <br />such building or structure, except the wiring may be run through studs under <br />windows, and in case of extreme hardship by special permission of the Eiectrical <br />Inspector. <br />(h) That no person, firm or corporation, shall wire any new building under <br />the floor of said building or structure, except in conduit. <br />Section 19. SERVICES, Service wires shaL1 be in approved metallic con- <br />duit. No service conductor slal.l be smaller than No. 8, B. & S. gauge Com:mer- <br />cial and Industrial installation. Except by a special permission of the Electrical <br />Inspector, service entrance shall not be less than ten (10) feet or more than <br />twenty-five (25) feet from the ground level. <br />Where one service is installed to supply several installations or customers <br />within the same building, the main cabinet cut-offs must be accessible at all times <br />to each of the occupants or customers supplied from such service. <br />In the main service entrance there shall be installed a safety switch and <br />fuses, and shall not be installed in inaccessible locations such as under stairways, <br />in closets, attics, etc., and shall not be installed, unless by special permission <br />of the Eiectrical Inspector, lower than five and one-half (5 1/2) feet nor higher <br />than six (6) feet from the ground or floor level. <br />Whenever the service wires to any building in the Fire Limi.ts, thetype of <br />wiring in which is the so-called "KNOB AND TUBE" type, is disconnected9 the <br />service shall not again be connected to such building until the electrical wiring <br />has been installed in approved metallic conduit so as to conform to the provisions <br />of this ordinance. Any building regardless of location, not having the service <br />wires in approved metallic conduit, once disconnected, shall not again be <br />connected to the source of supply until the service wires and meter loop shall <br />have been replaced and made to canform to the standards of this Ordinance. <br />Any Electrical devices, signs, apparatus or appliances munufactured within <br />the City sha11 be inspected by the Electrical Inspector before it is sold or installed. <br />
