Paris Santa Fe-Frisco Depot Rehabilitation ~ KEYSTONE AKCHITECTS
July 10, 2001

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.01 INSPECTION:

A. Applicator must examine areas and conditions under which work is to be executed and
notify Construction Manager in writing of conditions detrimental to proper and timely
completion of work. Do not proceed with work until unsatisfactory conditions have
been corrected in an acceptable manner.
B. Starting of work will be construed as Applicator's acceptance of conditions within any
particular area.
C. Do not begin work until pm-construction consultation with Construction Manager and
issuance of Notice To Proceed.

3.02 PREPARATION:

A. Prior to commencing work, Contractor shall meet with Construction Manager to subdivide
the Phase 1 work into manageable sections of roofing area that may be completed within
one work day, so as to minimize the exposure of the building to the weather.

3.03 ROOF TILE REMOVAL, SORTING & STORAGE:

A. All tile removal work shall be conducted with the utmost care to minkmize breakage, including,
but not limited to, the following precautions:

1. The roof tiles cannot be safely walked on or weighed on due to their fragility and
corrosion of the fasteners holding them in place. Do not walk on existing roof files
during removal, repair or replacement work. ConU'actor shall bear sole expense of
repair and replacement work necessitated by failure to comply with this directive.
Begin removal process by removing a section of files along the eave line and
working up towards the ridgeline, so as to create an access "path" to the roof
ridge. Removal of tiles within access path should be commenced at the eave and
progress upward to the ridge cap tiles. This will expose a "working" area of
substrate. Remove and properly dispose of battens. Inspect substrate for structural
stability and reinforce if necessary to yield a secure temporary substrate.

2. Continue with remaining file removal starting at the ridge with removal of the ridge
tile and work downward, carefully inserting a slate ripper or hacksaw blade under
each file to cut the wires and/or nail(s) holding it in place.

3. Specially cut tiles at valleys and hips and specially cut trim files shall be marked on
the back with the tile location to facilitate reinstallation. Sort remaining files by type
(field, bird-stop, ridge, etc.) and as directed by Construction Manager and store tiles
on-site as directed by Construction Manager.

3.04 SUBSTRATE REPAIR: Due to hidden conditions, the extent of substrate repair is not
capable of being fully identified and described on the Drawings. The contractor shall be prepared
to undertake a thorough field discovery of substmte conditions as existing roof files are removed
and to utilize this knowledge in directing the extent of substrate repair.

A. Inspection: Inspect substrate for damage, failure or stress, rot and insect infestation and
report findings to Construction Manager.

Section 07200
Page 3-5
