Mr. Brinkley said the three options that they were charged to look at were
the Old Post Office Building being vacated, they were to look at the current
facility, and a new site. Mr. Brinkley advised that of the three the building
of a new facility on a new site or on the existing site would be more cost
effective and less limited on layout of the floor plans. He said that the
required building area would be 39,430 square feet for each site. The
estimated cost for the renovation of the post office is $9,081,000.00 verses
the estimated cost of renovation and additions to the existing facility is
$8,805,000.00, and the cost for a new site would be estimated at
$8,569,000.00. Mr. Brinkley showed a visual overview of each option and
discussed each one with the City Council. Mr. Brinkley said that design
wise, it would take approximately nine months to actually be ready to bid
a project and the construction of a project of this size would take
approximately twelve to fourteen months to complete.
After discussion, a motion was made by Councilman McCarthy, seconded
by Councilman Gray, to direct the city staff to procure information for the
city's financial advisor as to the cost of money with the recommendations
made by the consultant. The motion carried 7 ayes, 0 nays.
ORDINANCE NO. 2000-048
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS,
TEXAS, PROVIDING THAT THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF
PARIS BE AMENDED BY REVISING THE TRAFFIC CONTROL MAP
ADOPTED IN PARAGRAPH (b) OF SECTION 31-65 OF SAID CODE;
PROVIDING FOR A PENALTY NOT TO EXCEED $200.00; MAKING OTHER
FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; REPEALING
ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH;
AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE OF NOVEMBER 1, 2000, WAS
PRESENTED.
A motion was made by Mayor Pro Tem Manning, seconded by Councilman
McCarthy, for adoption of the ordinance.
