City Council Meeting
September 7, 2000
Page 9
Tammy Daniel, FM Road 1504, came forward telling the City Council that Nell
Fleming has been keeping her children for five years and urged the City
Council to pass this zoning change.
James Hansen, 610 32nd N. E., Mr. Hansen said he lives across from where Ms.
Fleming is putting in her day care. Mr. Hansen said he has lived there since
1978 and had seen a lot of changes in this area. Mr. Hansen said he was in
favor of the day care that she is putting in and hoped the City Council would
approved the zoning change.
Lynn English, 525 Madewell Road, appeared before the City Council in
support of the zoning change. Mr. English said his daughter currently attends
Ms. Fleming's day care. Mr. English said he has known Ms. Fleming for over
eightyears. Mr. English said regarding the traffic, that not only on school days,
but on Saturday, he has gone through that neighborhood several time to garage
sales and sometimes you can not get down most of those streets because there
are eight to ten cars in the driveways and in the streets. Mr. English said there
is not a parking or traffic problem at Ms. Fleming's location.
Rhonda Newberry, Route 2, Box 92, Christy Vaughan, Vickie Proctor, 2220
Jackson, and Judy Smith, Clardy, Texas all appeared in support of Ms.
Fleming's rezoning petition.
Jeanette Bender, 615 32nd N. E., appeared before the City Council in opposition
to this zoning change. Ms. Bender stated her main concern is the property
value. She felt that a daycare home would devalue the property in the area.
Ms. Bender said this would also cause other changes such as the additional
traffic and parking. Ms. Bender said there has been a petition filed with the
city containing signatures of 33 residents on 32nd and 33rd N. E. objecting to the
zoning change, and it appears that the majority of the people speaking for Ms.
Fleming do not live in this neighborhood and would not be effected by this
change.
