Special City Council Meetrng
August 14, 2001
Page 4
Mr. Bass told the Committee that his plan was to make the city, county and school's
plan be somewhat harmonious with each other. Mr. Fisher said that he agreed with
that and felt that the City of Paris, the Paris Independent School District, and Paris
Junior College should match because they all vote on the same day and it would be
nice to have the election at the same locations for voting.
After working with the current map with the help of the Committee, Mr. Bass came
up with a plan raising the black percentage to 52.19 % in District One and about
46. 54% in District Two which will make two viable districts. By moving boundary
lines of the other districts, Mr. Bass advised that the deviation was under the 10%.
On a question by Councilman McCarthy regarding voter age of District One, Mr
Bass said the voting age of black the population is 33% and 30.29% in District No.
Two.
Mr Bass advised that he would take this current plan back and continue to define
the boundaries to come up with a workable plan.
There being no further business, the meeting was declared closed.
MICHAEL J.
