Division 3-C Cast-In-Place Concrete <br />BLUlP TEST: Contractor shall provide a metal slump cone as <br />required by ASTM Designation C-143=52 and make slump test in <br />accordance with such designation when directed by Architect. <br />Concrete shall have a slump of not more than 5". <br />DSPOSITING CONCRET$: Zf possible, the provisions shall be made <br />for the mixer truck to reach the building and spout concrete at <br />various points. The Contractor is cautioned against adding water <br />to the concrete and flowing long distances horizontally. <br />Concrete shall be handled from the mixer to the place of deposit <br />in cranes and pumps, and every precaution taken to prevent <br />separation or loss of the ingredients in transit. Concrete shall <br />be placed in layers by dumping at many points. Dumping at widely <br />spaced intervals and flowing horizontally will not be allowed. <br />VIBRATION: Concrete shall be placed by the aid of inechanical <br />vibration equipment. Vibration shall be applied at various <br />points in the freshly placed concrete and of sufficient duration <br />to make good dense concrete free from pockets and honeycomb. <br />Vibration shall be supplemented with hand puddling. <br />CONSTRIICTION JOINTS: After concrete work is commenced, it shall <br />be carried to completion if possible. If work must be stopped <br />before the entire pour is finished, stop shall be made at point <br />previously approved by Architect. <br />Note that the floor slab is divided into several sections. <br />Provide galvanized iron "cold joint" keyed as detailed. Extend <br />floor steel through knockout holes in metal key to tie slabs <br />together. Pour to joints in alternate slabs. Do not allow metal <br />key to form a ridge in slab. <br />Where construction joints are required perpendicular to main <br />reinforcement, provide extra reinforcement at right angles to <br />joint. This added reinforcement, shall be equal to main tensile <br />steel in members affected, placed in the face opposite to that <br />steel, and extended 30 bar diameters each side of joint. <br />SAw CDT JOINTS: Within 8 hours after pouring, the floor slab <br />shall be scored where shown on plans and detailed. Saw cuts <br />shall be made with a rolling power saw to a true line. This must <br />not be delayed or shrinkage cracks wi11 appeai in slab. <br />Z 2~ <br />
