Division 4 <br />Masonry <br />STORAGE OF MATERIALS CONT'D: Masonry units shall be <br />stacked on platforms and protected with plastic cover fFOm <br />mud, water, snow, and ice. Cement shall be stored in the <br />dry. Masonry must be carefully handled to avoid damage <br />both in transit and on the job. Every precaution shall be <br />taken to prevent stockpilinq material in the building im <br />such a way as to overload the structure. Material must be <br />scattered as directed by the Architect. <br />MATERIALS: MORTAR shall be ASTM C-270 using sand that is <br />washed, screened, sharp and free of foreign matter. Watsr <br />shall be clean and free of alkalies or acids. Mortar for <br />all masonry shall be ASTM Type "S" (1800 psi) mortar, <br />consisting of one-half part Portland Cement, (1) one <br />part masonry cement, and (4) four parts sand by volume. <br />CONCRETE MASONRY UNITS: In wall construction shall be load <br />- bearing made from expanded shale and conforminq to A$TM <br />' C90-75, Grade N1. If air cured, units shall be cured a <br />minimum of 28 days during which they are protected from <br />rain and moisture. The manufacturer stcall submit to the <br />Architect a certificate of compliance on each shipment <br />together with a recent regort from an indepenclpnt <br />laboratory showing that units comply with ASTM <br />requirements. Provide all special units includinq half <br />blocks, finished ends, split face units and 8 rib split <br />units, solid cap units, jamb, lintel, control joint units,f <br />etc.. All from the same manufacturer and uniform in color. <br />Exposed surfaces shall be uniform in texture and free tzom <br />defects. WALL REINFORCING: for block shall be truss-type (not ladder <br />type) DUR-O-Wall. Material shall be standard weight <br />galvanized with 9 guage cross rods and 9 quaqe side rods <br />spaced approximately 2" less than thickness of wall with <br />adjustable wall ties. Install reinforcing in the first and <br />second bed joints, immediately above inasonry openinqs which <br />shall extend a minimum of 24" beyond jambs. All other bed <br />joints shall be reinforced not over 16" c-c vertical <br />spacing with 6" end laps and extending continuous around <br />all corners.
