APPENDIX. A
SA.I\1PLE PSYCHOLOGICAL REPORT

High
Need For
Freedom

Interview
Probes:

Reference
Probe
Questions:

This person scores somewhat high on the measure of need for personal
freedom, People who score high on this measure sometimes desire latitude in
how they work. They may tend to resist what they feel is close control or over
management of their activities.

(Note: In some job positions, typically high level positions or other jobs requiring
independent action and decision making, a high need for freedom is less
problematic and more acceptable. A high need for freedom can be much more
problematic in highly structured jobs where the incumbent must be willing to
follow rules, take close direction, go by the book, etc,)

During the interview, ask him to describe the type of environment in
which he does his best work and the type of environment that would not
be a good fit for him. Listen for responses that suggest rebelliousness
or difficulty in accepting direction from others.
Ask him to describe the type of management style that suits him most
and the type that suits him least. Listen for responses that suggest he
has difficulty taking direction.

When talking with his references ask the following types of questions.

"Compared to his peers (other people in similar positions), how would
you describe this person's ability to accept guidance and take direction
without undue resistance?"
"How would you describe managing this person?" (Probe further --
easy, difficult, and why?)

@2004 - THE WATERS CONSULTING GROUP, INc.

Page. 10

nil; ISfOR".\110N "PROPRlEHRY "FOR".HION ."'D lHE ;OLE PROrERn 0" WCG,I.'C
nil; "FOR,eHlON" NOllD BE REPRODUŒD FOR ^NY RE,c;oN WI1110L1:1HE WRlffi'N PER'II;o;IO' °' w'C".
