APPENDIX - A
SAMPLE PSYCHOLOGICAL REPORT

High
Self-Reliance

Interview
Probes:

Reference
Probe
Questions:

This person appears to be highly self-reliant. People who are high on this
attribute should be capable of taking initiative, deciding on courses of action,
and handling things on their own. However, some highly self-reliant people have
difficulty involving others in their activities. They tend to try to do too much
themselves and may not collaborate, ask for assistance or delegate sufficiently.
If this position requires a collaborative work style or the ability to delegate
important assignments to others, you may want to probe further in this area.

When discussing this person's work history, attempt to determine how
often he has worked closely with others as opposed to working as an
independent individual contributor.
Ask him to describe the types of situations in which he found himself
more effective working independently and what situations required
more collaboration or delegation,
Ask him what strengths he brings to a work team and what parts of
working with a team he finds to be the most difficult or most
challenging.
Ask him to describe a time when he should have collaborated with or
delegated more to others. What was the result? What would he do
differently now?

When talking with his references ask the following types of questions.

"To what extent did this person's role require him to coordinate or
collaborate with others to get the work done?" if he had management
responsibilities, "To what degree was he required to delegate important
tasks?"
"How well did he collaborate and delegate?"
'Were there times when he operated too independently? What were the
circumstances? What was the result?"

Page-II

@2004 - THE WATERS CONSULTING GROUP, INc.

lHIS "fOIL\I-\'llOS Ii PROI'RIET.,"' I'I'O~\I.\T"" ^,PIHE ;OLE PROI'ERn OF WEG,ISc.
lHI; "'0~\I,"1oN ¡; ""10 BE REPRODECEO fOR .^" REA-'ON WllHOCT1HE WRmEN PE"""'O' or' WLC. 1'<..
