D <br />SAMPLE CANDIDATE INTERVIEW QUESTIONS FOR]OHN DOE <br /> <br />3. <br /> <br />How would your subordinates describe your management style? <br /> <br />Thinks they would describe him as participatory. He tries to surround himself <br />with the best people he can find and places confidence in them. He treats <br />professionals like professionals. <br /> <br />4. <br /> <br />What experience do you have in representing the City position on highway <br />projects to regional and state agencies? <br /> <br />He believes he has extensive experience in this area and that he has been very <br />successful in gaining approval of projects. <br /> <br />5. <br /> <br />What methods have you used to facilitate the City Council's and the <br />community's discussions about the future vision of the community? How <br />have you translated that vision into an action plan? <br /> <br />They have established meetings with community representatives. Includes <br />county, school district, and Council of Governments representatives. He <br />recommended to Council that they needed to begin strategic planning effort. This <br />has led to the adoption of master plans in a number of areas. He is working <br />towards the goal of developing these for all service areas. He feeds information <br />from the strategic plans into the annual budget planning process. Makes sure that <br />the strategic plan is part of the budget discussion with the Council. <br /> <br />6. <br /> <br />What do you consider to be your three most important accomplishments in <br />city management? <br /> <br />a. <br /> <br />When he carne to City of Prosperity, he noticed that there was an attitude <br />of the people in the community that the City was a second class City. He <br />thinks the attitude has changed. Now sees more of a can do attitude. <br />People believe that they can get things done. He thinks he has contributed <br />to this change. <br />Proud of the staff that he has been able to assemble. Now beginning to <br />lose people to other cities. <br />He mentioned the two construction projects noted in item 2. Very <br />complex projects that took a lot of effort to pull off. <br /> <br />b. <br /> <br />c, <br /> <br />7. <br /> <br />Describe the most publicly controversial issue with which you have dealt. <br />What was your role in resolving the issue? <br /> <br />The wastewater treatment was a very controversial project. They were able to <br />work through the issue and ultimately receive approval. Council was suggesting <br />that controls needed to be tightened up. Some of them had become nuisance <br />businesses in the neighborhoods.
